Steelmaking Coal, a division of Anglo American is a global diversified mining business with products that are essential ingredients in almost every aspect of modern life.

In Australia, we are headquartered in Brisbane and have five metallurgical coal mines in the Bowen Basin, along with additional joint venture interests. We are the world’s third largest seaborne exporter of metallurgical coal, and the largest underground coal miner in Australia.

At Steelmaking Coal, we promote an inclusive environment where every colleague is valued and respected for who they are and has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

We employ almost 5,000 people in Queensland alone and are constantly striving for ways to foster a more inclusive culture and improve diversity.

Each of our sites has an Inclusion and Diversity Council, which champion local initiatives and ensure a focus on promoting a positive workplace culture.

We’re embracing a new dynamic working policy, which aims to support all our employees, in various stages of their lives and careers.

We’re also taking a different approach to how we do business, particularly in how we provide greater opportunities and support for women entering our industry. As part of this approach, we recently launched our landmark female only trainee underground miner program at our Moranbah North mine.

At Steelmaking Coal, we aim to make a lasting, positive contribution to the communities where we operate.   Our operations, directly and indirectly, provide employment for thousands of people across Queensland, particularly in the Central Queensland regions where our operations are located, and we’re committed to helping these communities thrive through our best practice social performance system.  We support a broad range of community and sustainable development initiatives through our partnerships and community grants program, which aims to improve health and education services and facilities and increase the liveability of the communities where we operate.

Our community partners include organisations such CQ Rescue and Capricornia Rescue, delivering life-saving aeromedical and emergency helicopter rescue services across Central Queensland, and Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy, which provides training and skill development sessions for students. In addition, our community grants program provides funding for the local community groups and organisations that help make areas like Moranbah, Middlemount and Moura such wonderful places to live and work.

Real Mining. Real People. Real Difference.
