About The Role

If you love tech, people and making things happen, this is your chance to do it all at AO. We're looking for a Software Development Team Lead who's just as passionate about building brilliant software as they are about building brilliant teams.

You'll lead and develop a team of engineers, creating an environment where people feel empowered to take ownership, grow their skills and do their best work. Working closely with Technical Software Managers, Delivery Leads and other engineering teams, you'll help shape technical direction, drive engineering excellence and support the delivery of high-quality, sustainable solutions.

From coaching and mentoring developers to improving ways of working, managing technical challenges and supporting career development, you'll play a key role in helping both your team and our technology thrive. If you enjoy solving complex problems, developing people and creating a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, you'll fit right in at AO.

Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing

You’ll be the heartbeat of the team, making sure everyone feels right at home, can be themselves and do their best work (extra kudos if you bring the biscuits!). You’ll lead from the front, whether it’s pair programming, mobbing or just rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck in. Setting a clear technical direction is your thing, but you never forget to keep things lively. You’ll coach your team to take ownership, make decisions and celebrate every win - big or small. Collaboration is your superpower, so you’ll work closely with other teams to make sure we’re all winning together. Supporting your engineers’ growth is a top priority, from helping them develop their careers to finding their next big challenge.

A Bit About Us

We’re big on appliances and electricals, REALLY big. Washing machines, fridge freezers and TVs? They’re our bread and butter. Mobiles, Airwraps and Ring doorbells? Yep, those too. If it plugs in, powers up or makes life easier, AO probably has it.

But we’re more than that… For over 25 years, trust has been at the heart of everything we do, helping us become the UK’s most trusted electrical retailer. Our customers rate us 4.9 on Trustpilot from nearly ONE MILLION reviews and more 5-star ratings than any other UK electrical retailer, because they know they can rely on us and it’s the exact same for our AOers too.

We truly believe it’s more than just a job, we genuinely care about each other and our impact on making our customers lives easier, by helping them brilliantly. Everyone here knows how their role makes a difference. Our people are our superpower, so, when it comes to finding new AOers, we know it’s about more than just a CV, it’s about what makes you, YOU.
