Arriva Rail London

Arriva Rail London (ARL) is the train operating company responsible for running the London Overground network under a concession agreement with Transport for London (TfL). The seven-and-a-half-year concession commenced on 13 November 2016 and was extended by two years in 2023 to run until 3 May 2026.

Working in partnership with TfL, ARL strives to deliver improvements for London Overground customers through more frequent services, new trains and improved interchanges, as well as developing stations and lines to meet increasing passenger demand and to support new homes and jobs.

Arriva Rail London is part of the Arriva group. Arriva is a leading provider of passenger transport across Europe, employing around 35,500 people and delivering more than 2.2 billion passenger journeys per year!

Culture at Arriva Rail London

Being a train driver has changed my life. I’ve always worked in male-dominated environments, but I’d love to see more women in this role. It is a job we are more than capable of doing. I came into this with no prior railway or passenger transport background, so if I can do it, anyone can. The training can feel daunting at first, and at times challenging but you’re supported every step of the way, and before long your confidence grows and everything your learning clicks into place. What surprises people is how flexible it can be. Although the job isn't your average 9-5 with shift swaps, it’s possible to make it work around family life too. It’s not just a job, it gives you pride, independence, and a career you can build on. If you’re thinking about it, my advice is simple: go for it!
