Engineering Lead - Obsolescence:
Would you like to play a key role leading a multi-disciplined team delivering obsolescence strategy focussed change projects on behalf of several customers? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Lead – Obsolescence at our site in Portsmouth Naval Base with Flexible and Hybrid options available.
As an Engineering Lead – Obsolescence, you will provide technical leadership for a range of obsolescence related activities across the Marine Engineering and Weapon Engineering disciplines. The role will closely collaborate with customers to understand, analyse, and mitigate platform-level obsolescence risks and issues.

Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Lead - Obsolescence will involve:
● Leading the Obsolescence Engineering team, empowering them to successfully discharge their responsibilities and meet customer requirements
● Facilitating identification and assessments of innovative Strategic OM options including the presentation & promotion of recommendations across the enterprise to influence key decision makers
● Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, maintaining regular communications, and managing expectations
● Work with and support the OM Project Lead at Obsolescence Working Groups and key MOD stakeholder briefings (up to 2SL level)
● Engagement with key NCHQ stakeholders to develop an aligned prioritization methodology (endorsed by NCHQ) and to collate and present relevant information to enable MOD to make informed decisions on OM activities and allocation of funding
● Identify and develop new business / growth opportunities both internally and externally in support of achieving the customer’s vision to ‘Optimise OM for Digital Assets’
Your skills and qualifications:
Essential:
● Degree qualified in a relevant subject or equivalent working experience
● Previous experience leading or managing a team
● Detailed and comprehensive understanding of engineering principles; concepts, systems, theories, and practices.
● Knowledge and experience of working in the product support phase of the engineering lifecycle.
● Ability to communicate clearly with all project stakeholders including suppliers, contractor’s, and customers
Desirable:
● Knowledge of Obsolescence management standards and working towards IIOM Membership
● Previously worked in a defence organisation
● Skilled in negotiating favourable outcomes to the benefit of the business
● Conversant with Quality management fundamentals and focussed on delivering right first-time project outcomes
What we are looking for in you:
For this vacancy we are looking for an individual who is comfortable liaising with internal and external customers, stakeholders, and system owners, effective in managing people to successfully deliver their work and capable of communicating technical information effectively, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, management, and with external customers.
Location: Portsmouth Naval Base
Salary: Up to £61,000 dependent on skills and experience
