Our Submarines Business
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.

Procurement Leader
Would you like to play a key role in the strategic manufacturing team within BAE System Submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Procurement Leader at our site in Barrow.
The Strategic manufacturing team within BAE Systems Submarines is responsible for the outsourcing of Dreadnought units in support of the Submarine programme. You will lead on a Supplier contracting strategy which involves working alongside internal Commercial, Legal, Project Management and Central Supply Chain Teams as well as external suppliers.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to be involved in both current and future programmes within BAE Systems Submarines.
Your main responsibilities as a Procurement Leader will involve:
- Travelling to suppliers based in the North of England at least once a month
- Leading on a Supplier contracting strategy which involves commercial arrangements with suppliers & putting in place T&C's with support of legal & commercial
- Experience of Single source contracting requirements (SSCR)/Qualifying Sub Contracts (QSC) arrangements with suppliers
- Issuing Request for Quotations (RFQ’s) & Request for Tenders (RFT's) to suppliers
- Reviewing supplier bids & working with stakeholders to award contracts to suppliers
Your skills and qualifications:
- Degree level of qualification (business management, legal or equivalent is beneficial)
- Experience of SSCR/QSC arrangements with suppliers
- Experience of Team Centre and/or SAP is beneficial
- Good negotiation skills
- Experience of defence or nuclear contracting regulations would be beneficial
