What you’ll be doing:

  • Conducting and analysing electromagnetic compatibility analysis and testing in support of system delivery
  • Developing and managing requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform, or programme
  • Understanding the contractual and performance requirements for various systems, and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities
  • Producing documentation required to support the design review process, including diagrams; technical specifications; supporting calculations; design evidence and justifications
  • Reviewing relevant supplier documentation and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately
  • Ensuring design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority
  • Ensuring compliance against contractual requirements and that work is undertaken in accordance with company, safety, environmental, contractual, and local business processes, standards, procedures, and documentation
  • Undertaking design reviews and presentations to customers
  • Providing technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities, including acceptance of equipment from suppliers through to system acceptance by the customer
  • Providing support to the Certificate of Design activities appropriate to the discipline and articulate and present complex technical argument clearly, logically, and simply
  • Delivering technical input and engineering solutions in support of build activities, defect resolution and change management

Your skills and experiences:

Essential

  • BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent
  • Significant Design experience for EMC compliance
  • Experience of rectification of EMC Non-Compliances

Desirable

  • Understanding of Defence EMC Standards
  • EMC Test Experience

The Electromagnetic compatibility team:

The Principal Engineer – Electrical Engineering (EMC) shall provide support to engineering delivery teams in defining electromagnetic requirements, undertaking specialist testing of systems, sub systems and components, and rectifying EMC non-compliances in support of achieving compliance for EMC design.

The team will be supporting our ongoing submarine programmes, conducting EMC qualification and testing throughout the engineering lifecycle from concept through to in-service support. This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to work within our purpose built, state of the art test facility and to help develop and support this through the accreditation process. You will be fully supported with further education and training, such as recognised Safety & People Skills courses, Chartership along with EMC Military courses, enabling you to grow your skillsets within the role. This will in turn assist with career development.
