Job title: Senior Safety Engineer – Avionics
Location: Warton. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
Salary: Up to £50,000 depending on experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Preparing, issuing, and maintaining Avionics System Safety documentation for both development and production releases, through development and analysis of Fault Tree models
- Reviewing design changes and associated hazard analysis updates to determine impact on Avionics System Safety Assessment
- Determining non-compliant areas of the design, and developing appropriate mitigating arguments, where necessary working with aircraft operators and National Customer Representatives to determine limitations or restrictions of use
- Developing and maintaining failure mode architecture models for use by other systems reliant on the Avionic System
- Supporting the Typhoon qualification / certification teams to assess the safety impact of aircraft faults and non-conforming areas of implementation
Your skills and experiences:
- Degree (or conversant experience) in a relevant STEM subject (Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering or Electrical Engineering would be highly desirable)
- A proven understanding of avionics / aircraft systems, including data bus architectures
- Proven experience having utilised all Microsoft office toolsets

The Avionics Joint Team:
The Typhoon AJT is responsible for the entire aircraft Avionic System, and thus covers all seven sub systems. The team is populated with employees seconded in from BAE Systems, Airbus (Germany), Leonardo (Italy) and Airbus (Spain). This role will provide you with opportunity to gain significant understanding of Typhoon Avionics, working with a broad network of Systems Engineers, across the engineering lifecycle, including operators of the aircraft (groundcrew and aircrew).
It is an exciting time to join the Typhoon AJT, as the team is mobilising to meet upcoming demand. This is an opportunity to support and help deliver programmes of strategic importance to BAE Systems Air. The successful applicant will be well placed to directly influence the release of major platform capability to Typhoon’s Core Nation and Export customers.
