Job Title: Principal System Engineer
Location: Portsmouth Naval Base
Salary: Up to £52,000 dependent on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
Rising to the challenge in a fast-paced, impactful role where you influence the capability of current and future Royal Navy ships
Directly creating a more secure future for all as you work on the Queen Elizabeth (QE) Class Aircraft Carriers, the largest and most complex warships ever constructed in the UK
Providing systems engineering to support the introduction of new capability across a wide range of equipment domains (e.g., satellite and conventional communications, mixed media Ethernet networks, radar, C4ISR)
Interacting with and influencing senior stakeholders by leading a team of engineers and acting as the BAE design change authority from the Mission System DTA when required
Developing reactive solutions to engineering problems, by surveying on board QEC platforms and by applying and developing your own expertise and engineering judgement
Leading a close-knit, talented engineering team to ensure outputs are delivered to time cost and quality as well as supporting their engineering career development
Your skills and experiences:
You will be an experienced systems engineer ready to take the next step in your career, with a background in integrating equipment and system design capability
Experience in integrating complex equipment into larger system-of-systems; ideally within a maritime environment, but this is not essential
Proven experience in a highly regulated engineering industry and leading / managing engineering teams
BEng or equivalent in Electrical or Electronic Engineering / CEng. We can support you with funding if you are working towards Chartership

The WTA team:
Situated in the Portsmouth Naval base, you will be at the heart of the action as you overlook the ships as you work, as well as having the regular visits to the platforms to see your engineering impact brought to life.
The QEC Warship Technical Authority (WTA) team comprises a broad range of industry subject matter experts, making it an incredible environment for developing your knowledge and skills. You will also have access to an extended community of engineers across all of BAE Systems to network with.
Working collaboratively at the waterfront with the senior MoD, Royal Navy, and industry partners, you will make an impact everyday as you work to maintain and improve the key Carrier Strike capability for the Royal Navy.
