Job title: Design Engineer

Location: Portsmouth Naval Base or Broad Oak - We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Up to £44,000 dependent on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design Structural and Outfit arrangements using both 2D and 3D CAD packages
  • Preparation of Production packages
  • Liaising with Production and conducting ship visits
  • Keeping up to date in relevant technical areas to develop your skills and capabilities
  • Working with our customers to help develop their design requirements
  • Supporting apprentices and junior engineers in their development

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Previous experience designing using 2D and 3D CAD packages
  • Experience with manufacturing drawings
  • A minimum of NVQ level 3 or equivalent working experience

Desirable:

  • Experience within a structural or outfit design office
  • Experience with ship repair or experience within the marine industry
  • Experience in 3D CAD toolsets such as Foran and/or Inventor

The Design Services Team

You will be joining a team of around 55 Engineers varying from Apprentices to Principal Engineers.

The team provides Design Solutions across the full fleet of the Royal Navy such as the Flag Ship Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers, Type 45 Destroyers, Type 23 Frigates, MCMV Hunt Class and Submarines.

The Design Services department is growing its customer base and entering Naval Ship building and Submarine projects, as well as on all major projects required to keep the UK fleet at sea.
