Job Title: Principal Engineer Combat Systems

Salary: Up to £55,800 (depending on experience and qualification)

What you’ll be doing:

  • Responsible for supporting the Combat System (CS) Major Area Integration Team (MAIT) in achieving milestones for each Design Zone by managing/progressing Engineering Quality Issues, Design Rule Exceptions and providing the link between the Combat System team in Australia and the Transverse, Platform Design and Detail Design teams based in the UK for all matters relating to the integration of Combat System cabling, equipment and compartments into the Hunter Class Frigate (HCF) platform
  • Develop and/or support Defensive CS Cable Routing designs in preparation for ZRRs, and raise associated CRs
  • Rework, review and process T26 CS changes into HCF applicable CS changes
  • Develop, promote and share new processes and technologies for implementation into the HCF programme
  • Propose and develop solutions, resolve engineering issues and problems covering a range of situations
  • Provide technical guidance to others relating to area of expertise
  • Stand in for the HCF CS MAIT Engineering Manager, as required

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Knowledge and experience of integrating combat system equipment into Ship Platforms
  • Able to produce and present combat status reports
  • Ability to develop effective partnerships with a variety of stakeholders including customers, suppliers and other internal teams

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Platform Systems and their dependence on Combat Systems and vice-versa
  • Able to adapt Change Requests from the Reference Design to the HCF Programme
  • Professional knowledge of relevant engineering standards and codes of practice

Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Combat System Physical Integration Team:

In your role you will be a part of the Hunter Class Frigate (HCF) Combat Systems Team providing the link between the Combat Systems Team who are based principally in Australia and the Platform and Detail Design Teams who are based in the UK.

You will be responsible for ensuring that all the inputs required for the achievement of the zone integration process milestones for each Design Zone and will assist and mentor the Combat Systems team based in Australia with integrating the Combat System into the Platform.
