Job Title: Principal Engineer - Weights

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Bristol, Filton, Frimley, Weymouth, Manchester or Glasgow. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements (Hybrid working arrangements and Part Time considered) - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role

Salary: Competitive

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing weight estimates in support of submarine programmes

  • Using your experience of weight engineering to provide reliable, credible, and accurate weight data

  • Physically weighing, liaising with suppliers and system owners, interrogating CAD models and supporting weights databases

  • Conducting weight surveys on boat

  • Planning and scheduling work packages

  • Engaging regularly with stakeholders in a clear and effective manner

  • Supporting management and team activities

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Robust weights engineering knowledge and experience

  • Ability to work independently and provide leadership as part of the team

  • Experience using CAD programmes

  • IT literate in Microsoft packages, experienced knowledge in Excel

  • Degree qualified or extensive experience within weight engineering

Desirable:

  • Experience working with large, complex electrical or Mechanical systems

  • Experience of using CAD packages e.g. SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD, RHINO 3D, NX or FORAN

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards

The Weights team:

A great opportunity to learn more about submarines and develop an engineering career in this exciting field.The Weight Engineering Team are a specialist group of engineers who play a critical role collating, estimating, and calculating mass and centres of gravity in submarine design and build ensuring safe operations.The Team forms an integral part of the Naval Architecture Department, which is responsible for designing the world's most advanced submarines for the Royal Navy and Royal Australian Navy.
