Job title: Legal Counsel
Location: This role can be based remotely but will require regular travel internationally and to the BAE Systems offices in London and Farnborough/Frimley
Salary: £78,400 + depending on experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting campaigns, bids, and international pursuits in key territories
- Leading on high-value / complex early market opportunities and working with business lawyers to provide local international legal oversight
- Maintaining our “licence to trade” through good governance and compliance
- Collaborating closely with our Export Control colleagues
- Managing the work flows and prioritisation of our legal activities
- Managing the Legal relationships between PLC, the Group Business Development (GBD) business managed entities and those of the Lines of Business (e.g. SLA’s)
- Advising on the use and governance of legal entities / joint ventures and supporting M&A activity internationally
- Leading on legal-focussed matters including data protection, litigation, disputes and investigations
- Horizon scanning for developments in laws or regulations in GBDs markets which might impact the business and developing practical solutions to maximise opportunity and minimise risk
Your skills and experiences:
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister
- Appropriate experience in relevant legal disciplines from a leading law firm and/or in-house experience
- Track record of influencing and gaining the trust of senior stakeholders
- International experience is desirable but not mandatory (Your Chief Counsel will develop and coach you on the international specific areas)

The Legal Team
The Legal Counsel will manage and deliver the core legal work of GBD. You will be central to ensuring legal output is accurate, timely, proportionate and focussed on solutions, able to provide contributions on a wide range of topics to help drive the business forward. You will be working with Senior Management, representing the legal function and will have the exciting opportunity to build your own legal practice managing the UK and International business.
