Senior Design Assurance Engineer

Location: Barrow or Frimley (with travel)

What you’ll be doing:

This role is within the Integrated Combat Systems (ICS) Engineering Assurance team. It contributes to the engineering assurance of the installation, commissioning, integration, and trial of an extensive and complex electro-mechanical system to a naval submarine platform.

    Agree priorities, perceived risk and level of effort with the ICS Assurance Lead (Dreadnought) and provide reports

      Work closely with the Combat System (CS) Build and Integration team to understand the CSplatform build plans, the management of production defects, concessions, the critical path, etc

        Attend and observe Installation Inspections (IIs) and Final Installation Inspections (FIIs) on-board the Platform.

          Witness and report on significant CS faults, failures and safety issues and CS technical investigations raised on the Platform

            Witness and confirm the resolution of CS design issues, through testing on-board or in the CS Design & Integration Facility (CSDIF)

              Attend Combat System Release (CSR) and Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs)

                Witness CS equipment, sub-system and system testing

                  Undertake selective checks of production test results

                    Observe the introduction and verification of approved change within the delivered system

                      Actively engage with the Dockside Test Organisation (DTO) and Quality Assurance (QA)

                        Actively engage with the platform Engineering Product Assurance Department (EPAD) to support the assurance of the CS to platform interfaces

                        Your skills and experiences:

                        Essential:

                          Thorough knowledge of the engineering lifecycle and be able to apply good practices to your work

                            Understanding of relevant engineering standards

                              Have an awareness of intrinsic and functional safety

                              Desirable:

                                Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering related subject)

                                  Have experience of electro-mechanical product design and/or manufacture

                                  As Senior Design Assurance Engineer you will be joining the small and dynamic Integrated Combat Systems (ICS) Engineering Assurance team. The Engineering Assurance team support the successful delivery of ICS projects, providing an independent challenge, bringing in expertise and helping identify major risks. Engineering Assurance provides independent gathered evidence that a project is on track to deliver and recommend any remedial action required.
