Job Title: Senior Airborne Noise Engineer

What you’ll be doing:
Collaboratively work with multi-functional teams to develop system and equipment level verification and validation requirements
Design and develop equipment/systems by agreeing technical requirements, assessment methodologies and acceptance criteria
Support the generation of airborne noise reports at key review stages of the submarine design
Modelling of the airborne noise transmission path contributions (including in structure borne contribution) of equipment, systems and the whole boat using commercial and bespoke software packages on our in-house HPC cluster
Developing test procedures and analysis to develop airborne noise features, including the design of appropriate test rigs
Conducting airborne noise measurement and assessment of submarine machinery at factory and on board, ensuring that airborne levels are suitable to maintain the health and safety, habitability, and stealth requirements
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
Qualified to at least degree level in Acoustics, Maths, Physics, or associated degrees (or equivalent industrial experience)
Computer modelling software and/or programming experience
Desirable
Experience of Vibroacoustic modelling, Statistical Energy Analysis and/or Finite Element Analysis
Airborne noise measurement experience, Transfer Path Analysis, Sound Power Level testing is highly desirable
Detailed knowledge of the principles of acoustics (wave equation) is highly desirable
Knowledge of stealth technology development or ship/submarine signature technology is desirable

The Airborne Noise Team
Are you relishing an opportunity to work on unique platforms of national importance? If so, we currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer within our Airborne Noise Team based at our site in Barrow-in-Furness. You will join a small specialist team of engineers, who focus on all issues related to Airborne Noise. From concept system design to the assessment of the whole submarine, you will be involved in all aspects of the submarine lifecycle. Due to the diversity of our work, we seek applicants from all STEM related subjects. We are seeking highly motivated, high performing individuals with a STEM background who are keen to further their specialist skills required to deliver the increasingly challenging Airborne Noise requirements.
