Salary: £45,326 - £49,834 (Commensurate with skills and experience)

What you’ll be doing:

The role will involve the use of model based system design techniques in the development of a Mission Management product.To achieve these tasks both the UML and SysML notations will be used, knowledge of which would be beneficial, however training can be provided as needed.

The successful applicant will also assist in the development of Agile processes used in the team, gain exposure to both safety and security related work and collaborate with other teams across the wider Mission Systems & Software business.

This role is UK-based in the North West of England but as a Hybrid worker some of your time may be based from Home with regular working from our home base of Warton site. You may also be asked to support the Customers or our Industry Partners at one of their sites across the UK.

Responsibilities:

As a member of the Mission Systems Software team, your responsibilities will lie within for the development of the Mission Management exploitation software. Main responsibilities include:

    Support team meetings / DSUMS / Agile reviews

      Manage / help / direct a less experienced Software engineer e.g. an apprentice.

        Develop and test Mission Software from Systems Models.

          Assist with the creation of Engineering documents that form part of the Software process.

            Respond to both internal and external queries regarding the Software product in a timely fashion via the approved process.

              Analyse and fix issues.

              Your skills and experiences:

              Essential

              A degree in a STEM subject or equivalent relevant experience

              Experience of software development processes and source code configuration tools

              -C & C++ or Java software development using Eclipse IDE

              -Software development using and for the Linux operating system.

              -Experience using source code configuration tools, e.g. Subversion or GIT

              -Software development using GUI toolkit, e.g. GTK, QT and openGL.

              Preferable

                Embedded software development using real-time operating system; IMS, ECOS/ECOA or vxWorks.

                  Experience of developing Eclipse RCP (rich client platform) applications.

                    Experience of GIS (geographic information system) software development toolkits such as NASA WorldWind, Geo-Server

                      A working knowledge of the engineering lifecycle.

                        Knowledge and experience in Object Oriented design and Model Based engineering tools and techniques would be advantageous.

                          Experience of Agile methodology supported by the Atlassian toolset would be advantageous.

                          The Mission Systems Development Team

                          This is an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer to join the Mission Systems Development Team. Working in this role the successful applicant will work as part of the Software Team to develop the software for exploitations of the Mission Management system for the next generation of military platforms.
