Job title: Hardware Systems Design Authority

Salary: Up to £75,000 dependent on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
Responsible for the hardware product Design Certification activities; including Product Safety & Environmental testing and verification, as well as the production of documentation to support conformance marking.
Authorise release of the product data management information for build and provide in-service support.
Prepare specifications, develop designs in line with requirements and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained.
Carry out complex technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
Act as a lead point of contact with customers, Combat systems Projects, and suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives.
Support the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids in area(s) of expertise to facilitate the development of the highest quality bids.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
Ability to operate in a large, complex multi-project environment
Possesses in-depth knowledge in a number of areas of engineering development
Relevant UK product safety legislation knowledge (including LVD, EMC, etc.)
Thorough knowledge of the requirements for Product Safety & Environmental matters
Strong knowledge of the Design Certification and conformance marking processes needed to deliver complex systems
Proven ability to design and certify products within budget on time
Desirable:
Working with Public Sector customers
Qualifications:
Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Engineering Hardware Capability team:
As part of this role, you will line manage the Hardware Technical Authority team and drive through the Combat Systems product strategy into production hardware systems. The role carries delegated Engineering Authority from the Combat Systems Chief Engineer.
