About us

View website
British Business Bank is an organisation with an open culture and a strong sense of purpose.

We offer people the opportunity to work in broad and interesting roles where they can make a real difference, transforming local communities and the economy by improving access to finance markets for smaller UK businesses. Our work is rich and varied – and we collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders including Government, think-tanks, industry bodies, academic institutions and financial services organisations.

We continually strive to create an inspiring culture and environment, based on our shared Values, that enables our colleagues to excel. Whatever team you are in, your work will be stimulating and challenging, with opportunities to learn new skills, grow your capabilities, and develop your career.

We recruit candidates from a diversity of backgrounds who can bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and ideas from the public and private sectors, and who share a passion for our mission and purpose. Our colleagues say they are proud to work for the organisation, and this is reflected in how they go about their work – from award-winning performance and creation of innovative solutions to a willingness to embrace cross-team working and knowledge-sharing.

Since we were established in 2014, we have grown rapidly as an organisation and now have more than 380 employees across our Sheffield and London offices.

We want our colleagues to be equipped with the right skills to meet the demands that their role entails, and offer them a range of opportunities to deliver and develop their career.

Our approach to development is based on the 70:20:10 model – this means:
  • 70% of learning is completed on the job through our colleagues, cross working, and exposure to senior colleagues around the organisation and in government
  • 20% is completed through activities like mentoring & coaching
  • 10% is completed through formal training like eLearning and courses. We also have access to an online suite of training and development courses.
Also our work and roles are rich and varied to support the continued growth of colleagues at all points in their career journey.

Opportunities to grow

Our size and shape means that there are always opportunities to engage with leaders and colleagues across different parts of our business to round out your leadership and commercial experience.

If you’re stepping into leadership, then informal and formal mentoring will help you accelerate your skills. Our Career Conversations programme offers the opportunity to work with our most senior leaders, shape your development plan and identify next-step experiences that will build your potential.

Our work is varied and challenging. We’re a fast-moving team in an ever-changing environment, with colleagues working across many diverse areas to make a positive impact on the UK economy.

Nothing ever stands still at the Bank, so it’s important you have an open mind and want to be involved in helping to shape our future.

Bring your knowledge and experience to the team and we’ll support your career ambitions.
