Job Description
Here at Lloyds Banking Group, we're looking for a Media Relations Manager and it couldn't be a more exciting time to join!
This post offers you the opportunity to represent Lloyds Banking Group and its brands to external media customers – including national newspapers, newswires and television broadcasters.
The role will include a significant focus on our Commercial Banking business for both Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland. This covers support for SMEs, funding for larger clients at a Corporate and Institutional level along with working capital solutions for businesses.
Here's what we need from you..
- You'll bring drive, strategic thinking, calmness under pressure and the expertise needed to work in the busy press office in a highly scrutinised sector.
- You'll have excellent written and overall communications skills, a nose for news and the ability to cut through complexity and adapt to different audiences.
- A track record of experience in communicating on the financial services industry (a strong record on themes related to business lending would be a particular advantage) and a network of relevant media contacts.
- The ability, confidence and credibility to understand and process complex and sensitive issues that will potentially span the wider business operations of the Group.
- Given the media spotlight remains strongly on this sector, you'll need to demonstrate the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders as well as media.
- Required to both provide counsel on the external environment and work closely with our corporate affairs teams including social media at the right time to build robust integrated communications plans.
- Whilst banks continue to need to react to ongoing media interest in a number of live issues, there will also be scope for you to demonstrate your passion for communications, with a proactive, and can-do approach, including experiment with innovative ideas.
What you will be doing:
- Delivery of day-to-day media activity in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment to support key business areas, including significant projects working with partners promoting the Group’s reputation to external audiences.
- Act as a source of professional expertise providing media advice to partners and business areas within the Group, comfortable challenging and influencing senior colleagues.
- Manage day to day enquiries from the media relating to specific business area(s) with a key focus on the Commercial Banking division and work on proactive projects, research and campaigns to enhance the reputation of a brand within the Group or at a Group level.
- Identify, call out and mitigate emerging risks as appropriate to protect the reputation and interests of the Group and colleagues.
- Build, maintain and influence external relationships with relevant journalists.
- Provide Corporate Affairs input to support delivery of projects or where appropriate deliver projects and initiatives within relevant business areas.
- Provide a flexible approach to support other roles and other teams across the function at times of peak activity or competing priorities.
- Deputise for senior manager colleagues.
- Lead on specific projects or reviews within a broader area of specialism.
- Where applicable, handle activity of suppliers to ensure service standards are met along with budget requirements.
- Positively influence others by demonstrating core LBG values and behaviours and where appropriate, lead, develop and motivate colleagues to support a successful team.
