About The Role

The Telegraph is seeking to hire talented Senior Personal Finance Reporters to spearhead a major relaunch of our Money coverage.

We want to hear from experienced journalists who can write engaging copy to a high standard on a full range of Money topics.

As well as writing top quality news stories, these roles will involve writing energetic and insightful pieces that help enhance our readers' understanding of complex personal finance issues and help them to make the most of their money.

The journalists will be tasked with explaining, using data and tools, how the news affects the readers and their money, and presenting this in a punchy way.

The ideal candidates will have an eye for accuracy and nose for news. Experience of personal finance is desired, but we are also keen to hear from talented journalists who could master a new specialism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Writing in a range of formats including news stories, analysis, expert advice, guides, explainers and case studies (such as money makeovers)
  • Updating our library of content to ensure that readers can find the best and latest money tips and guides on our site.
  • Developing original and compelling ideas and creative ways to present articles – which could include graphics, calculators, video, polls and so on
  • Monitoring reader correspondence via email, story comments, post and social – and use this as a prompt for idea generation
  • Monitoring analytics
  • Spotting stories or digital projects from raw numbers
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues on other desks where appropriate

Key Skills

  • Excellent, accurate writing across a range of formats
  • Experience of writing and developing stories
  • An ability to explain and convey complex subjects clearly and comprehensively
  • An ability to find new ways to cover the same topics or issues
  • Knowledge of relevant data sources
  • Enthusiasm, energy and ability to be part of our happy and successful team
  • An ability to show initiative and work well under pressure

Additional Skills

  • A network of contacts across the spectrum of core personal finance topics including mortgages and property finance, investing, tax, pensions, banking and insurance
  • Knowledge and experience of using SEO to drive new readership
  • An understanding of the Telegraph audience and ideas for how to reach new readers
