Delivering extraordinary impact together

At Thoughtworks, our purpose is ‘to create an extraordinary impact on the world through our culture and technology excellence.’  Founded over 27 years ago, we’ve grown from a small team in Chicago to a leading global software consultancy of 9,000+ Thoughtworkers across 17 countries.

With our roots in custom systems and agile software delivery, we’re at the forefront of defining the tech principles used by some of the world’s most successful organizations. We have invested in organic growth, building on the strategy, design, data and engineering capabilities required to bring a truly integrated approach to solving our client's toughest challenges. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams deliver real results, fast.

Why women love working at Thoughtworks

At Thoughtworks, we are committed to driving real change to make tech reflective of the world around us and building a more equitable and inclusive future. Gender diversity is something we are particularly passionate about and we're proud of the work we've done as an organization to champion equality for women in the tech industry.

Rebecca Parsons, our Chief Technology Officer sums it up nicely,

“Our continued growth has shown that idealism can harmonise with great technical work. Social good and profit, yes it's possible. Now is not the time for us to rest on our laurels, let's redouble our efforts as one community. We are not done, not by a long shot.”

Meet a Thoughtworker: Zhamak Dehghani

From Sydney to San Francisco

As a young girl, she received her first computer and discovered a portal to a new world. See how far it took Zhamak Dehghani and where she is today.

Diversity. Equity. Inclusion

Diversity, equity and inclusion have the power to create transformative social change.

This is why we aim to include all of society, both in our community and through our tech. This is why we reject discrimination. This is why we give people a place to belong and grow, to be respected, safe and valued. And together we strive to have an extraordinary impact on the world.

Our people

We are proud to share our gender diversity metrics and goals, and why diversity in tech is so important to us.

See the progress we have made and the work we have left to do.

Find and nurture diverse talent

We strive to make Thoughtworks equitable, reflective and inclusive of the society we live in. A home to all: regardless of age, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender, religion, disability, background or identity.

We’re proud of the work we’ve done championing Women in Tech. Our aim is to be 40% women in tech roles by the end of 2022. Each of our regions has an additional focus area for diverse hiring within underrepresented groups in their countries.

Examples of our work in this space:

  • Behaviour driven diversity
  • Defining talent in the digital age
  • VAPASI - helping women return to work
  • STEP program - India | Aceleradora program - Brazil | Plan International - China (cn)

Inclusion and belonging

People often say that working here is the first time they could be themselves at work. For us, inclusion is everyone’s job; it unifies us as a community and brings out the best in individuals and teams.

We build awareness and sensitize people on topics like building equitable tech, unconscious bias, micro-aggressions, being a good ally, prevention of discrimination and harassment in our workplaces, and more.

Thoughtworks culture

Why is Thoughtworks a great place to work? The answers are many. For some it is our people. For others it is working on the leading edge of tech. Or the ability to continuously learn, grow and thrive. For others still, it is our inclusive environment and collaborative teams. And our commitment to making tech a better place for all. Put this all together and you get culture. At Thoughtworks we are committed to making a positive impact on the world through our culture and technology excellence.

Examples of our work in this space:

  • LGBTQIA in tech
  • Women in tech
  • Disability inclusion
  • Enegrecer - black in tech: Brazil (pt)
  • Talk tech to her - India

Advancement and opportunities

Cultivation is one of our core cultural values; when we help grow others, we grow ourselves. We seek out and nurture the potential in every Thoughtworker, through coaching and mentoring, a culture of feedback, stretch opportunities and more.

Our leadership development programs have had 50-60% women and UGM representation since 2012, consciously investing in a talent pipeline to shape our future.

Examples of our work in this space:

  • Thoughtworks University
  • Women in Leadership Development (WiLD)
  • Thought leaders - our books
  • Evolving a feedback culture

Retention and people policies

The fantastic diversity of Thoughtworkers has created our ‘secret sauce’ culture, the main reason people join, and stay. Our policies are not set in stone and have been created with equity for marginalized and under-represented groups in mind.

Good suggestions often become policy, for example supporting gender transitioning and adoption leave or increasing our maternity, paternity, and fertility treatment leave. We do regular compensation analysis and pay parity checks.

Examples of our work in this space:

  • Grassroots activism at work
  • The making of an enduring culture
  • 25 years and counting
