Job Description
Zendesk’s people have one goal in mind - to make customer experience better. Our products help more than 125,000 global brands (like Airbnb, Uber, JetBrains and Slack) make their billions of customers happy, every day. Our Engineering team in Australia works at a scale that most companies only dream about, and where the challenges start to get seriously interesting. In fact, our global Engineering team is one of the most widely dispersed in the world, with people across nearly every continent. This means you will get a chance to do cool things with a diverse bunch of people while working in an office that is home to some of Zendesk’s most loved products.
Due to ongoing growth in the Melbourne offices, we’re now seeking an experienced Linguistic Engineer to add further capability to the team. You’ll be testing highly technical, multi-tiered SaaS products in our agile development environment, while assuring our products feel native to the languages we support. You love figuring out how to make things better, faster and more reliable in collaboration with other teams who can help you in your mission.
What will you get to do every day?
- Run multiple product release schedules by communicating with Engineers and Product Managers globally.
- Provide critical feedback to both Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Design Teams to improve i18n features and standard methodologies.
- Identify and clearly explain software defects to Engineers through the use of our defect tracking system.
- Prepare and implement test plans for linguistic testing by 3rd-party vendors.
- Perform creative exploratory QA of new features and products to ensure seamless non-English user experience.
- Actively engage in the continuous improvement of test practices with a focus on speed, quality and innovation.
What you'll bring to the role?
- Substantial software experience preferably in a Software as a Service environment.
- A commitment to quality software translation and the knowledge and skills to achieve the goal.
- Expert knowledge in localisation & internationalisation.
- Good understanding of language mechanics and the challenges you face through the localisation process.
- Hands-on QA & test plan development experience, ideally in multiple languages.
- Sound understanding of application and agile development practices.
- Large scale project management experience, ideally on products supporting multiple languages.
- Strong knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON and APIs.
- Native proficiency, both written and verbal, in a language in addition to English.
- Willingness to present new ideas and suggest process improvements to enhance the capability of our products and team environment.
- A love for problem-solving, independent research and languages.
- Excellent communication skills and a healthy desire for collaboration.
That said, if your experience looks a little different from what we’ve identified and you think you can rock the role, we’d love to hear more from you.
Benefits include stock, flexible working hours, training allowance, private medical health cover, mobile phone allowance and 4 months gender-neutral parental leave. Being a high growth, global company, you’ll have the opportunity to travel and learn from highly experienced Engineers in Melbourne, Singapore, San Francisco as well as our other global offices.
