Team Overview:
The role forms part of the Global Privacy Office (GPO), led by the Chief Privacy Officer, which is positioned within the Legal department. The GPO is a first line of defense function that supports all lines of business and corporate functions in understanding and managing the privacy risks inherent in their business/function. The GPO develops and maintains the enterprise privacy strategy, framework, policies and procedures, runs enterprise-wide privacy processes and drives privacy regulatory change implementation.
Responsibilities of role: bulleted (job description):
- Lead the Privacy by Design component of BNY Mellon’s global privacy framework, with accountability for the strategy, ongoing enhancement and embedding of Privacy by Design and Privacy Risk and Impact Assessments across the enterprise. The Privacy by Design strategy will need to fulfil legal, regulatory and organizational requirements whilst also enabling the achievement of business goals and innovation
- Showcase the importance of Privacy by Design and Privacy Risk and Impact Assessments to key stakeholders and senior leaders
- Be the lead privacy SME on enterprise-wide business and technology change initiatives that cross several lines of business/corporate functions
- Develop/enhance Privacy by Design policy, processes, controls, communication/ training and tools for Privacy by Design Principles in accordance with industry leading frameworks. This should include targeted approaches for particular communities, e.g. technology developers, architects, data scientists, technical/end user testers, change project managers, etc.
- Ensure that Privacy by Design and Privacy Impact Assessment methodologies and checkpoints/controls cover both in-house initiatives as well as those outsourced to/in partnership with third party suppliers.
- Establish and implement measures to track and report on Privacy by Design performance indicators/metrics
- Support the deployment of privacy management technology and tools (automation) to enhance data privacy controls
- Engage Legal, Risk and Compliance, business and technology teams as required to manage risks and decisions and reach mutually acceptable outcomes

Required qualifications and experience:
- Proven experience in Data Privacy or closely related field, e.g. Privacy Engineering, Cybersecurity, Technology Risk and Controls/Compliance
- In depth knowledge and experience of the practical application of key privacy laws, and regulatory and industry Privacy by Design and Privacy Impact Assessment frameworks
- Working knowledge of technology architecture, systems and data components and the ability to connect and understand the privacy overlaps and implications
- Working knowledge of change management principles
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and changing requirements
- Strong leadership and change management skills with ability to develop strategy, influence stakeholders, drive implementation and measure success
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into business-friendly, impactful instructions/guidance .
- Self-starter, self-reliant, execution and results oriented.
- Team player with an open and collaborative approach to delivering required outcomes.
Desired qualifications and experience:
- Bachelors or advanced degree (JD or MBA) or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Financial Services industry experience
- IAPP CIPP certification, e.g. CIPT, CIPM
- Global privacy program experience
