Role purpose and overview
You will be responsible for planning, commissioning and delivering Telegraph Sport’s slower stream editorial output (non-live) including special projects, features, interviews, and coverage of major events. You will be a Digital First, high class sports editor with experience of planning weekend print editions and supplements. You will focus on original, agenda setting and outstanding journalism that supports the Telegraph’s subscriptions strategy.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and manage how Telegraph Sport covers all the major sporting events, delivering the must-reads around these key dates.
- Lead a team of commissioners and writers to produce the finest sports features, interviews and special projects in the industry.
- Represents the department at meetings internally.
- Speak to and manage Telegraph Sport's team of correspondents and writers. Work with Publishers (both Digital and Print) to ensure the production of slow stream content, special formats and key visuals are done to the highest standards.
- Deputise for the Head of Sport when required.
Essential vs desirable skills required for the role
- Experience of planning editorial coverage of major events, and commissioning award winning features, interviews and long form content.
- A dynamic editor brimming with brilliant ideas, the ability to convey this to writers, and then deliver the perfect product.
- Experience of a Digital First editorial strategy, and understanding of subscriptions models.
- Able to respond well under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
- Broad knowledge of a wide variety of sport, particularly football, rugby union and cricket.
- Understanding of social media and data.
