We are looking for a passionate Data Governance leader who is full of ideas to make valuable contributions to a high growth, innovative software company!

As the newly established Global Head of Data Governance reporting to our Chief Trust Officer, you will build and lead a Data Governance team to work with business and technology managers, and subject matter experts, coordinating and driving efforts related to data management and governance.

The Global Head of Data Governance will be tasked with developing, communicating, and executing the data governance strategy to continually align the use of data with Atlassian's business objectives. They will oversee the execution of Atlassian's Data Governance programs, consult on data governance related issues for new initiatives, products, and services, and partner with the business to provide effective data related education and policy updates.

Having the ability to collaborate with and influence various global teams with some level of ambiguity and uncertainty is a must.

What you'll do:

  • Deliver on Atlassian's aspiration of creating an industry leading data governance function, able to deftly balance business opportunity with strong, flexible controls and policies.
  • Establish and lead the strategy, direction, objectives, and operations for the global Data Governance organization.
  • Lead the innovation and governance of the organization's data governance operational and strategic risks within the current environment
  • Examine trends, develop insights, and collaborate on solutions to sustain and strengthen the control environment
  • Review current capacity, capability, and target operating model
  • Implement industry leading controls and associated procedures for across the global enterprise and our SaaS environment / cloud products
  • Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration, and commitment across multiple groups with multiple priorities
  • Drive data governance culture, specifically influence self-identification and disclosure of control self-assurance gaps
  • Maintain strong engagement across multiple stakeholders, collaborate with key senior business partners and stay abreast on risk, control agendas

Your background:

  • 10+ years of experience within Data Governance, Technology Risk Management, Compliance, Information Security or Internal Auditing
  • First-hand understanding of the Data Governance needs of a complex, large-scale B2B SaaS business, including integrating continuous control monitoring
  • Experience managing a global team of 10+ technical professionals
  • Experience with control and risk frameworks, performing compliance and risk assessments, designing controls and overseeing mitigation projects
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, especially communicating across all levels and cross functional teams
  • Experience presenting balanced risk perspectives and interacting with senior executives

Data Governance is currently a federated capability that spans the Atlassian business and technology teams globally. We are looking to build a central team that will develop global governance capability across all of Atlassian's infrastructure and product development teams, developing a comprehensive, unified approach to data governance. This team will work with virtually every team within the organization - Trust (we are part of it), Security, Privacy, Legal, Marketing, Finance, Customer Support, all product groups, People, the executive team, etc. We also collaborate with business partners, vendors, consultants and customers.
