We are looking for a talented Health, Safety and Environment Leader-Moderate Complexity to join our team specializing in Health and Safety for our Cummins’ business in Columbus, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Foster a strong health, safety, and environmental (HSE) culture by building trusted partnerships across functions and ensuring employees understand, support, and take ownership of their safety and compliance responsibilities.
Lead hazard identification, environmental aspect reviews, and risk assessments to proactively identify compliance gaps, reduce risk exposure, and drive continuous improvement across site operations.
Establish and execute site HSE objectives and improvement plans , ensuring critical actions are completed on time and aligned with business, regulatory, and sustainability goals.
Strengthen organizational capability by developing training programs, enhancing employee engagement, and delivering effective communications that improve HSE knowledge, awareness, and accountability.
Provide expert leadership on complex HSE matters, including regulatory compliance, incident investigations, contractor safety, emergency preparedness, management of change, pollution prevention, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
Drive measurable improvements in safety and environmental performance by leveraging data, performance metrics, audit findings, and compliance assessments to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
Partner with regulatory agencies, legal teams, and internal stakeholders to maintain compliance, manage audits, address non-conformities, and ensure adherence to reporting and management system requirements.
Develop high-performing teams by coaching and mentoring employees, supporting succession planning, and championing emerging HSE best practices that enhance operational excellence and long-term organizational success.

Lead with influence, trust, and strategic vision by fostering a strong health, safety, and environmental culture, building credibility with stakeholders, and translating future risks and opportunities into actionable strategies that protect employees and support business objectives.
Drive compliance and operational excellence by effectively managing HSE management systems, interpreting regulatory requirements, maintaining certification readiness, and ensuring controls are in place to meet environmental, health, and safety standards.
Use data and business insight to make informed decisions by analyzing performance metrics, identifying trends and risks, managing complex issues, and implementing sustainable improvements that advance organizational goals and reduce operational risk.
Build high-performing, inclusive teams by developing talent, valuing diverse perspectives, managing conflict constructively, preparing teams for emergency response situations, and creating an environment where employees are engaged, accountable, and empowered to succeed.
Education/Experience:
College, university, or equivalent degree in Occupational Health, Safety or Environmental required. Professional certification in HSE-related field preferred. Significant relevant experience required, including management of health, safety and/or environmental ISO Standards required. 5-7 years of experience, 1-2 years management experience.
Additional Details:
HSE Leader for the entire FSP/GOB site and will report directly to the Plant Manager/Site Leader. This role is responsible for:
Responsible for all HSE aspects and compliance for FSP/GOB sites (this includes FSC, XPC, Engineering, and other Corporate groups)
Improving all key HSE metrics and reducing OSHA recordable incidents
Implementing new HSE systems
Driving employee engagement to meet required safety improvements
Communicates and collaborates with government agencies, auditors, and others for compliance needs
Communicates and collaborates with stakeholders across Cummins including CEC, Corporate HSE, GISF, and many BUs located at FSP/GOB to meet Cummins standards
Strong involvement in best practice sharing across Cummins Components and Software sites – Charleston Turbo Plant and Valvetrain
Leads Business Continuity Planning for the site
Leads work to meet key environmental goals such as reducing water and electrical consumption across the site.
