We are looking for a leader to guide our global localization strategy and develop and grow our distributed team of localization professionals. This leader will partner closely with our product, engineering and analytics teams to build fabulous experiences that bring the world within reach for our customers and suppliers. The role will enable global localization services that are timely and accurate, along with capabilities and tools to help assess the quality of existing site content, test new content and support compliance with industry standards.
What you'll do:
Strategy
- Define Expedia’s localization strategy to deliver the best possible user experience around the world and power travel for all
- Ensure global scaling via machine translation for Expedia’s products globally
- Build a clear 12–18-month roadmap of upcoming launches
- Define metrics towards desired outcomes aligned with business impact
- Balance and prioritize multiple requests from various partners across brands
Team Leadership
- Manage a large global team of linguists, quality managers and program managers
- Define Localization technical and personnel resourcing strategy to enable high standard of execution with cost-effective, scalable solutions
- Lead your leaders by participating in headcount planning to ensure that Localization resources are well utilized
- Monitor quality results and overall project performance of external translation teams
- Achieve and maintain high 360 feedback and people manager scores - earn the respect of your team and peers
Quality and efficiency
- Sign-off on the language quality of specific marketing, merchandising and promotional copy
- Ensure all creation and translation teams follow the existing quality processes and guidelines
- Ensure all samplings and QA results are documented and reported to partners in line with the official Localization Quality System
- Engage with the brand partners on initiatives to improve local content and establish a solid review cycle, assessing the feedback from internal clients
- Create and maintain terminology, glossaries, reference materials and style guides
Communication
- Proactively communicate the strategy above, the goals and metrics to the stakeholders and the team
- Develop strong relationships with internal and external partners to ensure tone, style and brand guidelines are adhered to

- Build positive relationships in support of business objectives and lead a culture of continuous improvement and quality monitoring
- Institute a culture of continuous improvement and effectiveness for content localization
- Support the company's vision and values in daily actions, decisions, and planning
Who you are:
- Thought Leader: You are a key thought leader, known for leading large-scale global organizations through their globalization and localization strategic journey, with a bias toward machine translation while upholding the highest quality standards.
- Subject matter expert: You are well-established and an expert in the Localization industry. You have extensive writing/editing experience and are familiar with content production processes. You have knowledge of translation memories and translation processes, experienced in working in a global, matrixed environment.
- Technology Focused: You thrive in a fast-paced environment, striving to produce great work which will help power travel for all. You value technological advancements in machine translation (MT) and are excited about new implementations and usage while maintaining high quality standards.
- Strong communicator: You display strong interpersonal skills communicate well both verbally and in writing, can create accurate and punctual reports, deliver presentations, share information and ideas. You can give structured, clear and constructive feedback.
- Inspirational: As you create a compelling strategy for our localization needs, you excel at inspiring team members to champion the strategy. As a leader of leaders, you know how important it is to lead by example and establish effective working relationships across a complex, international, multi-cultural company.
