Expedia Group fiercely competes for potential customers across multiple travel industry marketplaces. We deploy millions of bids daily in these ad marketplaces to acquire traffic for our sites. To make bidding decisions at scale, data scientists build machine learning models to predict the value of a click on an Expedia Group ad. This is where you come in! You will be on a team that is embedded within this exciting marketing space.
As a Data Engineer, you will build pipelines that synthesize the auction marketplace data, build data structures that enable sophisticated analysis and insight, and work with the data science team to improve the features available to our models.
Our team is critical in the day-to-day operations of our Metasearch marketing campaigns with partners like Google, Kayak, and TripAdvisor. You will play a meaningful role, reporting to the Director of Metasearch Data & Bidding Operations. We act as the glue between our stakeholder groups, building and fortifying the bridge between business and technology. What you’ll do:
Use concepts of object-oriented design, distributed computing, performance/scalability tuning, advanced data structures and algorithms to batch and real- time stream analytics and data processing
Learn the performance marketing domain and associated data structures allowing you to proactively suggest improvements in our pursuit of operational excellence
Apply software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimised, modular with good naming conventions
Develop and test standard software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements
Proactively reach out to meet peers across environment and collaborate to solve problems
Take advantage of opportunities to build new technical expertise in a specific engineering area
Engage in communication with team members and stakeholders both verbally and in writing on technology and design considerations and status of work items
Who you are:
2 to 5 years of data engineering experience
Master's in a related technical field, or equivalent related professional experience
Strong in Python, Spark or pySpark, and SQL and have a moderate familiarity of other applicable languages
Developed pipelines in a team environment using agile methodologies, strong version practices and good grasp on release management
Built and maintained at least one data engineering pipeline/data product in production environments in public/hybrid cloud infrastructure
Can demonstrate actual successful hands-on experience designing and delivering projects and as well as an understanding of how projects fit together within your organization
Communicate effectively about highly technical and complex concepts in a way that is tailored to your audience
You understand data access patterns, data validation, and the importance of testing
