Software Development Engineer III (Full Stack)

Our team has adopted a full-stack development model and our engineers are involved in every aspect of the application lifecycle. We release software to production multiple times a day and measure how our applications perform, so we can keep improving our features and our underlying platform. This is a unique opportunity to join the largest online travel company in the world and help shape the future of the top Checkout initiatives within Expedia Group.

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm to learn about travel and traverse our various stacks in the Checkout space and willing to dive into unknown code bases. This really means that you’ll learn about the Checkout product, the different brands at Expedia Group, take that information and drive simplification efforts. We want someone full stack who is willing to design systems that are optimal and performant, who can bring elegance to our code base, and can dabble in the frontend and help debug issues. If this sounds like you, welcome to the team!

What you’ll do:

  • Design and implement scalable and reliable web applications and services

  • Work closely with other hard-working developers, both local and abroad, who are building and maintaining Expedia systems

  • Prototype creative solutions quickly by developing minimum viable products and work with others in crafting and implementing the technical vision

  • Participate in code reviews to assess overall code quality and flexibility and the application of good object-orientated programming techniques

  • Drive continuous improvement in our software and development process within an Agile development team

  • Write automated unit, system, and acceptance tests as appropriate to support our continuous integration pipelines

  • Work full stack across our data sources and making sure it gets into our shopping stack in a scalable, maintainable way

  • Work on not only business value features but also long-term tech initiative investments

Who you are:

  • Strong technical proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or Scala

  • Knowledge and exposure of modern API frameworks like REST, GraphQL, and gRPC

  • Exposure to Javascript frameworks like Angular or React

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present sophisticated technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of partners and peers

  • Critical thinking - there are always options, and you are adept at identifying them, evaluating options, and recommending the best solution

  • Clean technical designs and the desire to instill the same drive-in others

  • Experience in Agile/Scrum software development practices and the ability of learning from your actions to make positive adjustments

  • Experience developing and supporting e-commerce systems along with experience in relational and non-relational databases is a nice to have

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $128,500.00 to $180,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $205,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
