Senior Data Engineering Manager

As part of that effort, Expedia Group’s Clickstream organization is building a common platform for all Expedia brands to capture and enrich user interaction data to enable AI, data science, and programmatic & analytics platforms to optimize user experience.

As a manager of the Clickstream Data Products team, you will lead the design, development, and adoption of enriched real-time and at rest clickstream data products to provide programmatic and analytic access to clean, fast, and authoritative data sources for the entire company.

What you’ll do:

  • You will anticipate and recognize bottlenecks in work processes between teams and make suggestions for ongoing improvement

  • You will determine different phase milestones and priorities in collaboration with product management peers

  • You will conduct day-to-day work and solve complex issues in PB sized data sets

  • You will extend outside of direct organization and collaborate with peers across a senior level organization

  • You will creatively test and maintain software applications and related program supporting scalable and highly performant distributed systems for processing real-time user interactions

  • You will research and recommend frameworks and architectural/code design patterns

  • You will be a strong advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability, data quality checks)

  • You will gain insight into how customers utilize technology for their competitive advantage and apply this knowledge to suggest areas for improvement

  • You will bridge the gap in discussions between technology and nontechnology workforce

  • You will review the skill and expertise requirements to accomplish team goals and identify staffing and talent resources to fill project roles

  • You will guide employees and managers to develop team and individual goals, providing regular and specific feedback, and assess individual and team performance

  • You will prioritize team morale and productivity- celebrate team accomplishments. As well as promoting collaboration among team members and encouraging others to cooperate and coordinate efforts

  • You will craft the culture of your team by building team rituals, processes and practices that build strong team bonds and an open trusting environment where diverse viewpoints, opinions, approaches, candid conversations and critiques can happen

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

  • Experience in Clickstream domain (tracking libraries, server-side logging, canonical event model, data etc.)

  • Experience with data access patterns, streaming and batch processing technologies, data validation, data modeling, data performance, and cost optimization

  • Able to justify technology choices to technical and non-technical observers

  • Mentor team members

  • Able to build a strong motivated team

  • Defining teams’ goals and how they fit a business need across multiple teams working together

  • Delivering solutions to business problems spanning teams

  • Delivering and influencing product roadmap, working in collaboration with product team

  • Skilled in communication, documentation, project management

  • Lover of MPP big data technologies including Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, Hive, Iceberg, Trino, Flink etc

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $161,500.00 to $226,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $258,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
