Corporate Development Manager
Expedia is seeking to hire a Corporate Development Manager. The Corporate Development & Strategy team leads the charge to identify areas to invest, acquire or divest in order to drive profitable, sustainable growth.
The Corporate Development & Strategy group is responsible for (1) leading Expedia's investment and acquisition activity globally; and (2) driving strategic initiatives across Expedia Group and its portfolio of industry-leading brands. This role reports to the Vice President of Corporate Development & Strategy and will work closely with a broad range of internal stakeholders, including Expedia’s most senior leaders
Expedia Corporate Development Overview:
o High deal volume: The team has executed numerous transactions in recent years including minority investments, majority investments, full acquisitions and divestitures.
o Impactful strategy projects: In a typical year, the team will tackle 3-4 major strategy projects that range from assessing industry trends and their impact on our businesses to recommending and implementing cross-business unit transformations.
o Small team: The team consists of professionals with strong and diverse backgrounds (e.g. former investment bankers, private equity professionals, and consultants with extensive M&A and strategy experience).
o Frequent exposure to senior leadership: The group works closely with the leadership team of Expedia including our CEO, CFO and Chairman.
o Emphasis on career development: Corporate Development is a pipeline for some of the most senior positions in the company. Previous Corporate Development colleagues have gone on to become business unit GMs, business unit CFOs, head of corporate finance, CFO and CEO.
What you'll do:
Develop detailed financial models and valuation scenarios for potential transactions
Manage deal processes for potential transactions, in coordination with senior members of Corp Dev, including:
Lead business, company, and industry diligence analyses of target companies
Coordinate internal functional experts and outside advisors, sometimes numbering more than 200 members, in functional diligence of target companies and transaction structuring
Review legal documentation including to ensure protection for issues / risks identified in business and functional diligence
Produce investment recommendation materials for review by Expedia’s board and senior corporate executives
Identify and play a key role in operationalizing key medium- and long-term strategic initiatives to improve Expedia’s operational performance and competitive positioning, while working with senior executives across the organization
Work with the CEO, CFO, SVP/VP of Corporate Development, and senior team members to develop Expedia Group’s annual strategic plan
Assess business unit strategic plans and develop a corporate view on portfolio-wide gaps and opportunities
Work with the SVP/VP of Corporate Development and senior members of the team to produce materials for board meetings and to answer other key questions posed by the CEO
Who you are:
Outstanding performer with a demonstrated record of 3+ years of achievement at a top tier investment bank, strategy consulting firm, private equity firm or active M&A corporate development group
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field; or equivalent related professional experience
Excellent written and verbal communications skills and experience communicating complex information
Proven track record of defining and executing thoughtful analyses in an ambiguous environment with minimal supervision
Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; demonstrated experience in modeling, analysis, research, and presentation creation
Demonstrated experience working in a team environment
Seattle: The total cash range for this position is $104,000 to $145,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $166,500, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
