At Expedia Group, the Developer Experience team is responsible for creating a cohesive set of platforms and tools that enable our Developer Community to code, build, deploy and run their software with ease and efficiency. We are a global team of 200+ with a wide-ranging portfolio of tools and services that are incorporated across our enterprise technology stack and used by thousands of developers every day. Reporting to the VP, Developer Experience Platforms this Sr. Director role will act as a key leader and strategic partner in defining how Expedia Group optimizes the end-to-end developer experience.
As a leader on the EGDX team, you will foster a culture of collaboration by working across foundational, core and experience teams to deliver critical capabilities that will streamline and standardize software development life cycle best practices to ensure reliability and security are embedded at every stage in the application lifecycle. You will partner closely with architecture and technical program management teams to create the vision and roadmap, and ensure architectural patterns and designs are aligned to the organizations long term strategic goals. You will listen to the voice of customer by cultivating a developer community rooted in learning, innovation, and knowledge sharing.
What you’ll do
Lead an organization that will build and maintain core developer tooling for all Expedia engineers. You will develop best in class services and tools that continuously improve the developer journey.
You will provide impactful leadership and coaching to a team of talented platform and software development engineers distributed across the globe.
You will manage multiple concurrent, complex, and/or unique projects and initiatives across Expedia Grouop. You will set technology standards and direct the execution of initiatives from inception through execution.
You will build and grow a best-in-class technology team by cultivating culture of teamwork, innovation, efficiency and driving strategic value.
You will ruthlessly measure the health and usage of the platforms you own. You will use data to create insights that inform strategic decisions and to engage stakeholders in opportunities for continuous improvement of the systems and the processes.
You will have a sharp focus on continuously improving the developer experience through building automation and self-service capabilities that aim to reduce steps and time to code, build and deploy software.
You will embrace agile methodology and practices within your team. Using these practices you will continuously improve velocity, reliability and on time delivery.
Partnering across teams you will work to identify opportunities to increase safety and ensure reliability in the deployment process.
Who you are:
10+ years of technology management experience working in a highly distributed software development environment using Agile methodologies.
You will have technical expertise in developer platforms and tools including but not limited to continuous integration and continuous deployment, developer portals, container orchestration and management and various proprietary solutions.
You care deeply about the developer experience and improving their day to day productivity. You understand that by reducing friction in development cycles you unlock productivity and improve employee sentiment.
You have experience with leading and growing a globally distributed team of engineers across all skill levels. You lead with empathy and drive accountability.
You have experience working with or in a foundational service organization with an understanding of security, reliability, architecture and infrastructure engineering concepts.
You are a strong relationship builder able to influence within and outside of your team. You have experience developing a strong and reliable network and are able to leverage that network to create a sense of shared ownership in common goals.
You have experience leading and delivering large cross cutting programs that require effort and prioritization across multiple organizations. You are comfortable with communicating status, risk and remediation updates to senior level audiences.
The total cash range for this position in Austin is $277,000 to $387,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $443,000, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $255,000 to $357,000. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $408,000, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
