People Data Science Lead
The People Analytics team at Expedia Group is a rapidly growing team that uses data and analytics to understand our organization’s health and to define and shape the Expedia’s employee experience. In Expedia, we believe data powers experiences. We are searching for an experienced people data scientist who is excited by being part of building out our new data science and machine learning capability in the people team.
As the people data scientist lead, you will be responsible for building and leading our brand-new people data science function. You are an established data science leader who will super charge our ability to analyze and act on complex business problems coming from both the business leaders and the people team. You are a hands-on leader who will drive our people data science agenda forward, creating novel data science and machine learning solutions to solve some of the most challenging organizational, people experience and inclusion and diversity questions. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams to establish our data science standards and ensure models are translated into scalable data solutions.
What you'll do:
Proactively frame Expedia's most complex people and business problems as an analytics problem and concrete set of analytical tasks
Establish dynamic prioritization and delivery of data science projects with frequent communication, expectation management, meeting deadlines and minimizing surprises
Apply a range of advanced statistical / analytical methods (such as advance regression analysis & interpretation, stochastic processes, neural networks, Markov models, random forest, discriminant and factor Analysis) in data modeling, quantitative analysis, experiment design, and data visualization with a rigorous focus on driving business performance and shaping our Expedians experience
Build production grade data pipelines, which can support business critical applications
Establish new standards in all stages of model development from data collection, data quality control, model building, validation, testing and calibration, scalable implementation, and product lifecycle
Leverage others skills, knowledge and expertise effectively in problem solving and delivering impact
Work with interdisciplinary product teams to craft, develop and optimize customer impacting solutions
Apply and provide strategic recommendations to our functional toolsets that are aligned with the wider business strategy
Collaborate with peer data science teams to refine and improve engagement driven test methodology, competitive analysis, and measurement best practices
Establish model testing, validation and production grade performance standards with the goal of scalability and personalization in mind
Proactively contribute to cross team collaboration and lead the alignment of work with broader initiatives
Communicate technical subject matter clearly and concisely to audiences of various backgrounds
Provide mentorship and coaching to the People Insights team, which is comprised of data analysts and engineers
Who you are:
Bachelor's or Masters in Mathematics, Science, Statistics or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience
Experienced data science and business leader with applied knowledge in people or behavioral domains and/or adjacent field
Experience with big data architecture (streaming events, data lakes, analytics engines) and relational database models as it relates to analytics
Possess solid theoretical foundation and applies advanced statistical methods to a broad range of problems
Experience with UX and UI concepts and is familiar with HTML/CSS/JavaScript for custom visualization applications beyond the limits of visualization tools
Understands functional metrics and approaches new insights strategically, considering impacts to the wider business strategy
Creative and persistent in the face of roadblocks
Entrepreneurial, resilient and excited about building a brand-new capability in a complex organization
An excellent communicator with the ability to influence across various levels of the organization
Knows industry standards and EG visualization tooling well and is able to create complex calculations using advanced features
Actively builds space for feedback and contribution from the team to improve UX culture and practice

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
