Senior Content Designer
Are you looking to be part of a world-class enterprise design team dedicated to crafting incredible user experiences? Would you like to drive impactful work that helps millions of people see and enjoy more of the world? Are you passionate about solving hard problems and creating order out of uncertainty?
Key to this mission, Expedia Group’s Experience Design organization (XD) is a global, cross-disciplinary team that unites user experience design, content design, and research to enable innovative, relevant, and cohesive experiences that serve the needs of all our travelers, partners, and agents.
We’re looking for a motivated and experienced content designer to help us envision and deliver delightful customer experiences in our Partner business. As a Sr. Content Designer on our XD team, you'll help us achieve that mission by bringing clarity, consistency, usability, and delight to our private label solution experiences for Expedia Group Partners.
You'll cover a large domain area, collaborating on design solutions with product owners, designers, researchers, and engineers, and you’ll demonstrate an inclusive and human-centered approach to your work in product content. Drawing insights from user research, product teardowns, and other sources, you’ll identify, investigate, and craft solutions to content-design problems across the customer journey, and you'll participate in lab testing that enables you to see the impact of your work on the products we build.
What you'll do:
Reporting into our centralized Content Design practice, Sr. Content Designers drive the content strategy and the approach to content design within large and complex areas of the Expedia product (web and app) ecosystem and specifically in our private label solutions for Expedia Partners. As members of our XD community, they exemplify sound practices in human-centered content strategy and design. (We’re looking for team members who can lead by example!) And while no two days in the role are identical, your main responsibilities as a Sr. Content Designer will look something like this:
Write product copy with a clear and compelling voice & tone, and fix structural and comprehension problems with existing product content
Design IA (info architecture) solutions to improve experience systems, overcome technical constraints, and reduce content debt
Design efficient content solutions that scale for modularity, localization, reuse, automation
Partner across XD, Product, and Marketing to drive increased experience quality (including accessibility, inclusion, readability, and translatability)
Apply sophisticated concepts around UI frameworks, modularity, localization, reuse, and related concepts to craft content solutions that scale
Contribute to design workshops that help others develop content-design knowledge and acuity, both within and across teams
Mentor other content designers and add to the overall content design practice
Partner across product and research teams to drive content tests that measurably improve the customer experience; and identify, log, prioritize, and resolve content bugs across the portfolio
Contribute frameworks, methods, critique, and knowledge that raise the bar for junior team members and help to advance our content practice
Exhibit storytelling and persuasive techniques that build trust and establish long-term relationships with teams and partners
Who you are:
We realize that content strategy and content design are constantly evolving, and we know that no two people enter this field through the same path. So we're not expecting you to be a specialist in everything listed here, but we do ask that you demonstrate expertise commensurate with the job level in whichever methods you apply. We're also looking for people who will contribute frameworks to our growing team and our design system, so we're excited to see how you scale your thinking!
Bachelor's degree in related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience in core skills such as UX Writing, Content Audits and Analysis, Content Mapping and Modeling, Content Planning and Sourcing, Conversational Design, Information Architecture, and Storytelling (This is not a content marketing role)
Able to audit, analyze, structure, create, and present content independently using established frameworks
Understanding of human-centered design (HCD) practices
A thoughtful, empathetic, and inclusive approach to content design that meets every user where they are
Exposure to working on content problems across systems and brands
Strong skills in facilitation and presentation, and the ability to communicate compelling rationale and narratives to your team and partners
A passion for travel and for our mission
A portfolio of work that demonstrates your skills. We're especially interested in seeing examples of work you've done for Android and iOS apps, and if you have experience working in a platform or two-sided marketplace, it's a definite plus!
