Software Development Engineer III (Full Stack)

We are looking for a highly qualified and passionate Software Development Engineer III to help unify, build and scale our checkout experiences for VRBO, HCOM and Brand Expedia.


As a member of the checkout experience engineering team, you will help design, develop and deliver the next-generation checkout UI and APIs needed to provide a great traveler experience. This will be an exciting opportunity if you enjoy working with a high level of autonomy and integrity while handling a variety of challenging job responsibilities. You will be analytical and passionately user-centered, detail-focused and creative, and will enjoy working both independently and collaboratively with the team. You will have a proven record in taking end-to-end ownership and successfully meeting deadlines to deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic business environment.

What you’ll do:

  • Full-Stack Development: Be a key participant in the design and implementation of full-stack applications, working on both the frontend and backend components to deliver end-to-end solutions

  • Architecture & Technical Leadership: Provide technical expertise and guidance in designing and evolving the overall architecture of the applications, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability

  • Code Development & Review: Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code, and actively participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and consistency within the team

  • Technology Evaluation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks, and assess their relevance to the organization's technical roadmap

  • Troubleshooting & Bug Fixing: Identify and resolve complex technical issues in the software, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted operation

  • Performance Optimization: Optimize application and page performance to ensure fast response times and optimal resource utilization

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, develop technical specifications, and deliver high-quality products

  • OPEX Management: Collaborate with stakeholders to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize cloud infrastructure usage, data storage, and other resources to maintain efficient OPEX

  • Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Act as a mentor to junior team members, helping them grow their technical skills and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing within the team

  • Agile Development: Embrace Agile methodologies and participate in sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups to ensure efficient project execution

  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, API documentation, and development guidelines

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

  • 5+ years of proven experience in full-stack software development, including frontend and backend technologies

  • Proficiency in at least one frontend framework (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js) and strong expertise in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

  • Solid experience in backend technologies such as Node.js, Java, Kotlin, or similar frameworks

  • Extensive knowledge of database systems (SQL and NoSQL) and data modeling

  • Demonstrated ability to architect and build complex, scalable, and secure applications

  • Strong understanding of software design principles, design patterns, and best practices

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and serverless architectures is a plus

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is advantageous

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, results-oriented attitude

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

  • Passion for learning and staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies

  • Participate in a community of practice to share and gain knowledge

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $137,500.00 to $192,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $220,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
