Position Overview
The MCTO (Material Cost Takeout) Buyer will develop and implement sourcing strategies to meet raw material and component needs throughout the HPS Business Unit. This position will focus on project-based sourcing to find new sources for parts at lower costs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead sourcing of various commodity items for the Business Unit
- Lead the development cost savings measures (MCTO) through either improvement process or re-sourcing to ensure cost savings (MCTO) goals are met
- Keep records / files pertaining to items purchased, cost, supplier delivery, product performance up-dated as necessary
- Work closely with planning and manufacturing to ensure that inventory goals are met
- Maintain accurate purchase order information (pricing, lead-times, etc.) in the PIR (purchasing information record) in current MRP system (SAP)
- Prepare materials for make /vs. buy decision process
- Work with operations and planning in the identification and disposition of obsolete materials
- Expedite purchased materials (raw material or components) from suppliers as needed
- Work with Q.A., production and the suppliers to get timely disposition of rejected raw material or components
- Work with suppliers and Hubbell A.P. to resolve invoicing issue when needed
Skills and Experience
- Associates degree in business or engineering with a minimum of 5 years purchasing experience in manufacturing; or a Bachelors degree in business or engineering with a minimum of 1 to 3 years of purchasing or engineering experience in manufacturing.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Moderate level working knowledge of Word and Excel
- Ability to manage multiple projects and report progress as required.
- Experience with SAP preferred.
- Ability to travel on business related trips as necessary, ability to move to various locations within the Company
