Position Overview

This Product Engineer will be a part of the Engineering team that develops complex embedded hardware products in the area of Distribution Switching and Distribution Automation for the electric utility market. The individual in this position should be able to support various engineering programs- New Product Introduction, Sustaining Engineering, Value Engineering, Product troubleshooting, Product enhancements for multiple Distribution Switching products like Programmable Sectionalizer, Line Post Sensors, Reclosers etc. Will be able to participate in a deep level technical conversation about the entire product across various disciplines – Firmware, Hardware, Mechanical Engineering, GUI development, Type Testing, Functional Testing etc. Additionally, the Product Engineer will work with various cross-functional teams such as Manufacturing team, Product Management team, Field Application Engineering team etc..

This position is for an engineer who is passionate, proficient and the one who will enjoy working on all aspects of launching new products.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own existing Distribution Switching product portfolio for sustaining existing products – Reclosers, Programmable Sectionalizers, Line Post Sensors, 69kV Sectionalizer, Reclosers etc.
  • Work with Product Management team for gathering requirements for new feature additions, NPIs (New Product Introduction) and Sustaining Engineering projects and own list of deliverables against those requirements,
  • Perform detailed requirements breakdown and work with individual Design Engineering team members and plan for delivering those requirements,
  • Lead Concept Design Reviews, Detailed Design Reviews, Design Verification Reviews with Chief Engineering office for various NPI projects,
  • Lead Product troubleshooting for field issues, troubleshooting of various issues during product development by owning the problem solving; Provide technical guidance to various team members to solve the problem,
  • Define "Design of Experiments" framework to solve problems encountered during development and/or various field issues, as needed
  • Use Azure DevOps for creating Project instances, Epics, User stories, Tasks etc. Control and manage DevOps interactions for various projects requirements,
  • Understand Type Testing requirements of NPI project and plan out the testing; Dig into various IEEE/IEC standards to understand type testing requirements as needed.
  • Supervise functional testing of the product. Define System-level Test plan, Help the testing team conceive various use-cases, corner cases for Product testing.
  • Perform system-level Product testing as required and guide/direct Test Engineering teams, as necessary.

Skills and Experience

  • BSEE, BSCS, BSCE Degree; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven track record for owning product lines for feature additions, sustaining engineering, solving manufacturing issues etc.
  • At least 5 years of development experience as an Electrical Engineer, Systems Engineer or Hardware Engineer
  • Excellent understanding of NPI (New Product Introduction) process
  • Ability to write SOW, Requirements document for external design vendors effectively.
  • Familiarity with various IEEE, IEC, UL Standards for type testing requirements
  • Ability to work with various Engineering disciplines to deliver product requirements
  • Ability to work hands-on in the lab with Oscilloscope, Current sources etc.
  • Demonstrated experience of working in a fast-paced, goal-oriented product development environment,
  • Have a passion and aptitude for grasping/learning new concepts, new technologies, new products
  • Ability to comfortably work with various cross-functional teams - Product Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Firmware team, Testing team, Offshore teams etc.
