Division Overview

Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. Position Overview

Senior Protection & Control Application Test Engineer is responsible for developing test plans and procedures based on product specifications (marketing requirement documents, product requirement documents, design algorithms, logic flowcharts, and application scenarios) in the power system protection, control, and automation areas. Conduct product functional testing based on the test plans and procedures, document test results and provide feedback to engineering team. Provide guidance and mentoring to junior level test engineers and technicians.

Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Analyze product design requirements to develop test plans and procedures.

Consult with hardware engineers and other engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and test software.

Develop System level tests, test plans and procedures.

Write, maintain, and execute automatic test software using Omicron’s Test Suite.

Provide maintenance by performing enhancements or modifications to existing Omicron test modules.

Perform design verification of new or existing products in accordance with the test plans, test procedures, and product specification using automated/manual testing.

Analyze test results and compare with calculated values in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, provide feedback on test results to design engineers.

Confer with engineers and/or project team leaders to resolve identified noncompliance items and testing problems such as product or system malfunctions.

Accurately record test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test methods.

Maintain design verification records in accordance with ISO-9001 and company policies procedures.

Coordinate installation of software systems.

Develop and review test procedures.

Work with Product Support Engineers in identifying production type tests.

Work with other team members to accomplish goals.

Design to meet the operational and performance requirements of overall system.

Perform Hardware type tests to industry standards.

Comply with all work rules, including but not limited to, the Company's safety and attendance policies.


SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Work under supervision on required tasks.

Work is checked during progress.

Limited judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections or adaptations of engineering alternatives.

Specifies equipment required to support design and department efforts.

Soldering and assembly of electronic products.

May design method or fixtures to accomplish design verification or development of test routines.

Perform compliance tests such as Hi-pot and SWC.

Skills and Experience

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 5 or more years related experience and/or training in power systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with power systems 3 phase test equipment a plus.

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS

PC’s, 3-Phase test sets, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, AC/DC power supplies, hand solder tools, electric drill, manual assembly tools, miscellaneous in-house custom designed test equipment, computer, printer, telephone, copier.

SKILLS
Familiar with the operation of PC using Windows operating system. Familiar with office 365(MS word and excel).

Familiar with communication techniques (RS232, RS485, Ethernet, USB, fiber optics).

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions supervisors and managers. Ability to write reports and procedures.

Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, and correlation techniques.
