Division Overview

Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

The Cost Accountant will report to the Business Unit (BU) Controller and would assist in monthly closing, planning, and forecasting activities, ad hoc analysis, and helping to ensure adherence to Company Policies and Procedures. Responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, aiding in monthly close process, posting of journal entries, and preparation of financial reporting. Responsibilities require fundamental knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP), financial analysis, cost accounting, manufacturing product costing, and financial reporting systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monthly closing and reporting process, using financial reporting systems
  • Compile and prepare monthly financial reporting
  • Assist in cost center planning and forecasting process, including tracking expenses and analysis of variances
  • Assist in monthly variance analysis including, but not limited to, PPV, freight, material usage, production order, labor, and burden (overhead) variances
  • Assist in the fixed asset control and maintenance processes (tracking spend, capitalizing, tagging)
  • Assist in project analysis, including capital, major maintenance, and product line expansion
  • Preparation of quarterly and yearly pro formas

Education, Skills & Experience

  • BS Degree with major in Accounting or Finance
  • 1 to 5 years of applicable accounting experience
  • Intermediate MS Excel skills (i.e. VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, Pivot Tables)
  • Prior experience with ERP system (i.e. SAP), a plus
  • Prior experience with Consolidated Reporting system (i.e. Hyperion), a plus
