Position Overview
Manages and coordinates the activities of purchasing electronic components, mechanical parts, organization. Obtains necessary purchases at lowest cost consistent with approved quality and delivery date. Recommends improvements in overall purchasing program which will advance the interests of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned
Initiate requests for quotes (RFQ) and select best source consistent with cost, quality and delivery requirements. Negotiate and manage long term pricing agreements on critical commodities, utilizing blankets orders. Review requisitions and turn into POs. in SAP, obtain confirmations, enter into SAP.
Develop, coordinate, and manage on-going supplier relationships with key distributors/vendors.
Buyer will negotiate with suppliers on all conflicts and/or questions concerning pricing, delivery dates, quality and required packaging. Verifies receipt of materials and approves invoices for payment as required.
Handles procurements for build-to-print-parts after determining price and availability through formal and informal requests for quotes (RFQs) of components used to build product.
Expedite in a dynamic production environment.
Researches and provides constant feedback to department and management relative to material shortages and supplier’s capacity and capabilities. Work with Manager and Engineers to suggest alternate components, due to excessive lead time or obsolescence.
Maintains proper inventory levels per order policy. Interacts with personnel throughout the site with frequent outside contacts to discuss/negotiate difficult technical problems.
Process non-conforming material requests (NCMR) and RMA requests with distributors/vendors, in a timely manner.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing other job related tasks as needed; enabling other workers to achieve their job objectives.
Continually updating lead times and pricing in SAP.
Approves all purchases within a pre-determined limit.
Performs internal company audits in accordance with ISO-9000 standards
Due to interface with global suppliers (time zone differences), the desirable candidate will need to be flexible on the hours worked.
Works necessary hours to ensure required work is completed.
Comply with all work rules, including but not limited to, the Company's safety and attendance policies.
Additional Qualifications
Strong negotiating skills.
Work experience in an electronics manufacturing environment required.
Efficient organization and time-management skills - Six Sigma, APICS, CPIM . Certification is a plus.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools (Kaizen, Kanban, Standard Work, 1-piece flow and 5’s)
Working knowledge of SAP Systems is a plus.
Proficient in procurement of actives (Integrated Circuits) and passive components.
Proficient in the comprehension of Data Sheets of manufacturer specifications, specifically interpreting manufacturer’s part number and identifiers to determine if suitable as an alternate.
Ability to organize work, document and/or report concisely and accurately and be thorough in carrying out the responsibilities of the job.
Ability to handle multiple vendors/priorities with minimal supervision under challenging conditions
Demonstrates an active commitment to continuous improvement in the areas of Quality, Cost, Delivery and Lead Time.
Have effective interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of employees and management. High degree of confidence, objectivity, tact, diplomacy and ethical conduct is essential.
Skills and Experience
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Four year college or university degree in business or material management or equivalent experience. 7 plus years in a manufacturing environment with progressive responsibility.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
Ability to identify electronic and mechanical components; familiarity with purchasing and inventory control procedure in a manufacturing environment; familiarity with a fully integrated computing system; ability to supervise others.
