Position Overview

The Segment Commercial Finance Manager will report directly to the HES Segment Assistant Controller. This role will partner with segment sales & marketing leadership and work with the businesses to ensure proper accounting, reporting, and compliance over the commercial accounting and finance space. This role will be an integral part of the HES Controllership group and will have high visibility across multiple business functions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Finance business partner to the segment sales & marketing leadership team.
  • Works with business units and groups of business units (SBUs) to establish and deploy best practices around customer incentive accruals (program accruals) as well as salesman/agent commission accruals and other sales incentive programs.
  • Interfaces with Corporate sales & marketing and accounting functions to track, communicate and properly account for the HES segment’s share of Corporate customer incentive programs and Corporate-run customer meetings & events.
  • Partner with sales and marketing leaders to build plans and forecasts for customer incentives, sales team commissions, external sales agent commissions and sales and marketing department spending.
  • Assist with financial analysis for prospective programs as requested by the sales or marketing team (to be presented to senior leadership).
  • Work with Hubbell’s Order to Cash shared service group to aid in the investigation and resolution of customer deductions.
  • Liaise with the business and our outside service provider around sales and use tax guidance.
  • Assist businesses involved with sales and use tax audits.
  • Ensures that all customer agreements across the segment are known to finance and properly understood, documented and accounted for.
  • Aids in the planning and execution of cross-functional customer-related initiatives.
  • Articulate changes in the makeup of customer rebate programs and communicate the direct impact on the financial statements.
  • Attends annual & other off-cycle sales meetings.
  • Interfaces directly with customers as needed to help resolve disputes around AR deductions.
  • Other ad-hoc requests/projects in the commercial finance/accounting area.

Skills and Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting
MBA, CPA or CMA a plus
8+ years experience with accounting, preferably within a global manufacturing company and/or in public accounting
Extensive experience reviewing customer incentive agreements (contracts) and applying them in properly accounting for related sales, deductions/expenses and accruals
Experience building financial models and presenting to Sr. management
Detailed knowledge of the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act; Section 404
Detailed knowledge of US GAAP (strong focus around program accruals, commissions, sales & use tax, and warranty)
SAP, PowerBI, and BlackLine experience preferred
Strong written, verbal communications and PowerPoint presentation skills
Self-starter who is capable of developing and deploying best practices, above and beyond existing company processes
Collaboration skills and ability to work in a team environment
Confirmed capability to lead change
Must be willing to travel 10-20%
