Position Overview

Responsibility is to make chemical additions, perform solution maintenance, conduct lab analysis, maintain plating processes, maintain the Waste Water Treatment (WWT) System, and keep the discharged waste water to the local POTW within approved copper metal levels and in compliance with our Industrial Discharge Permit (IDP) parameters. WG7

Duties and Responsibilities

• Duties & Responsibilities: Include the following, but not limited to;
• Prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
• Weighs out or measures quantities of powdered or liquid chemicals following formula sheets or staff instructions .
• Makes solution additions based on the recommendations of the lab technician, plating engineer and/or plating manager.
• Pours and mixes chemicals and/or solutions in the appropriate tanks.
• Empties used and/or spent solutions from tanks.
• Performs analysis of plating solutions and related process, including spot checks and complete analysis.
• Moves drums and/or containers with hazardous waste under the direction of the metal finishing staff.
• Maintains water usage log and reports usage on a monthly basis.
• Maintains a diary of solution testing and solution baths.
• Analysis of plating solutions and related processes, including spot checks and complete analysis.
• Maintains all fume scrubber equipment, operation, and pH logs.
• Generate and maintain the solution maintenance log and the waste treatment log.
• Will be responsible for all solution waste and hazardous waste labeling.
• Prepares, inventories, and documents wastes for shipping off site
• Responsible for the startup of the waste water treatment (WWT) system by switching from non-production to production.
• Start of shift recording of water flow, PH, and ORP charts.
• Records hourly copper level readings and maintains daily log sheets and logbooks.
• Fill all chemicals as needed and at the end of shift, assisting with daily additions to process tanks and cleaning of tanks.
• Perform scheduled cleaning of solution filters, clarifier, sand filter, and WWT System..
• Ongoing filling and cleaning of the filter press and emptying the sludge hopper.
• Responsible for receiving and shipping chemicals, hazardous wastes, and materials.
• Maintains integrity and cleanliness of tanks, equipment, and work areas.
• Repairs and replaces diaphragm pumps, metering pumps, and plumbing components, as needed.
• Perform jar sample testing and utilizes lab equipment as needed for troubleshooting problems.
• Physically inspects processing to ensure quality of wastewater and process operations.
• Able to calibrate and replace probes as needed.
• Works with the Plating Laboratory to ensure proper chemical maintenance and solution control.
• Gives assistance, provides direction, and/or trains inexperienced personnel as needed.
• Responsible for the quality & quantity of wastewater that is reported to the town.
• Required to be trained in proper handling of hazardous wastes due to the various wastes generated by BURNDY LLC.
• Maintains an organized and safe work environment.
• Operating & maintaining waste water treatment system and reporting problems to the management staff.
• Trained for various hazards associated with chemical handling and hazardous waste handling within the facility.

• EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school or general education degree (GED); or six to twelve months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read ad comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must also be able to write simple correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
• MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must have the ability to compute rate, ration, and percent.
• REASONING ABILITY: Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• OTHER SKIILLS and ABILITIES: Must have a basic understanding of chemistry as it applies to the job; a remedial understanding of chemical wastewater treatment, and the ability to troubleshoot and to problem solve.
• Specific Training:
• Required to be OSC Certified
• Required to be Fork Lift trained
• Required to be trained in proper handling of Hazardous Waste in accordance with 40 CFR 265.16
• Required to be trained in 24-Hour Emergency Response in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120
• Recommended training: Hazmat in accordance with 49 CFR 171.8 and 172.704
• Recommended certificate: NH Hazardous Waste Coordinator in accordance with RSA 147-A:5 & Env-HW 515
