Division Overview

Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Hubbell Incorporated engages in the design, manufacture, and sale of electrical and electronic products in the United States and internationally. It operates in three segments: Electrical, Power, and Industrial Technology.

Purpose:

Responsible for maintenance and preparation of tax-related items to include tax records, tax schedules, and related tax reports. Provide general ledger system support regarding financial, tax, and management reporting.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with third party service provider to ensure timely filing of all sales & use tax returns.
  • Prepare information packages for domestic and international entities as requested by third party service provider.
  • Make timely payments for returns prepared by third party service providers.
  • Responsible for reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Audit monthly transactions to identify sales tax overpayments and exposure.
  • Prepare journal entries for accruals of all sales, use and property tax monthly.
  • Assist the other staff accountants during month, quarterly, and year-end close.
  • Prepare applications and renewals of state and local business licenses.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of valid sales tax exemption certificates and product coding in Vertex sales tax compliance software.
  • Manage indirect tax audits.
  • Assist with continuously identifying, developing, and recommending process improvements.
  • Monitor current laws, trends and techniques relative to sales, use, and property tax requirements for the company.
  • Responsible for timely payments of real estate and property tax payments and related monthly accruals
  • Be the tax information source within the company. Be the go-to sales/use tax expert for the company.
  • Manage the sales into Canada to ensure proper filing of all Customs Duties and Tariffs.
  • Support Canadian Customs Audits.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • May be required to cross train and perform other duties.
  • Complete special projects, as needed.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Required:

  • A four-year college degree in accounting or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (work with internal and external partners).
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skill set.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and adapt quickly to a high level of change.
  • Excellent time management, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Self-motivated and goal-driven with a proactive attitude.

Preferred:

  • 3 year of sales tax experience.
  • SAP or JD Edwards enterprise system experience
  • Vertex or Avalara – Sales tax compliance software
  • Experience working with Customs Brokers
