Division Overview

Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Software Solution Architect with a strong background in distributed systems and smart grid technologies. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for envisioning, designing, and guiding the implementation of complex software solutions that seamlessly integrate distributed systems concepts with smart grid functionalities. Your expertise will contribute to the advancement of our product portfolio and establish our company as a trailblazer in the energy technology landscape.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, and research, to define software architecture, technical requirements, and system design for distributed smart grid solutions.

  • Lead the creation of end-to-end software architecture blueprints that ensure scalability, reliability, and interoperability across distributed systems and smart grid components.

  • Drive the development and integration of innovative software modules, APIs, and microservices that enable seamless communication and data exchange within complex smart grid ecosystems.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development teams, guiding them in the implementation of architectural best practices and ensuring alignment with the overall solution vision.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends related to distributed systems, edge computing, IoT, and smart grid standards to inform architectural decisions and drive innovation.

  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as utility clients and partners, to gather requirements, gather feedback, and present technical solutions that address their unique challenges.

  • Participate in code reviews, system performance assessments, and troubleshooting efforts to maintain high-quality software deliverables.

  • Contribute to the development of technical documentation, whitepapers, and educational materials to share insights and best practices with both internal teams and the broader industry.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience as a Software Architect, Solution Architect, or a related role, with a focus on designing distributed systems and smart grid solutions.

  • In-depth understanding of distributed systems principles, edge computing, microservices architecture, and relevant technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, etc.).

  • Proven experience in designing and architecting software solutions for smart grid applications, including knowledge of utility industry standards and protocols.

  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in software architecture, such as C++, .Net, Java, Python, or Go.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and propose elegant solutions.

  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Prior experience in mentoring development teams and providing technical leadership.

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their integration with distributed systems is a plus.

  • Willingness to stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies through continuous learning and professional development.
