Position Overview
As a member of the Hubbell Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence, you will help drive the adoption of metal and/or polymer AM across Hubbell by supporting the strategic business units as the subject matter expert on binder jetting, SLS, and/or metal L-PBF technology. You will be a thought leader - identifying new applications for AM across Hubbell, educating Hubbell employees on the benefits and design challenges of AM, and taking ownership of the binder jetting and/or metal L-PBF workflow – from build prep, operation of the printer(s), post-processing, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop repeatable processes for metal additive manufacturing in a R&D as well as for production environments
- Optimize metal parts for the binder jetting, SLS, and/or DMLS processes. Be an expert on DfAM and able to educate and support others on DfAM best practices
- Help individual business units establish AM capabilities, from initial prototyping, to setting up their own printing facilities and scaling for production
- Assist with the establishment of the new Center of Excellence as the technical subject matter expert for binder jetting, SLS and/or DMLS equipment and operation
- Project planning, estimating, execution, project control, and documentation
- Acts as the subject matter expert in cross-functional projects to solve complex technical manufacturing problems
Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 4 years' experience in laser powder bed additive manufacturing technologies or metal binder jetting
- Existing or previous engineering, support experience in metal material manufacturing techniques
- Expert level experience with metal binder jetting, SLS and/or DMLS technologies, including DfAM, build prep, maintenance, application development, and printer operation
- Skilled in CAD, SolidWorks/Inventor/PRO E (Creo), Magics, Netfabb (or similar) FEA/calculations/simulation
- Project/Program Management experience is a plus
- A collaborative communicator skilled at working with diverse teams, both as a team member and a leader
- Experience with new product development processes, from new concepts to scaling up for production
- Willingness to travel for business purposes
- M.S. (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar
