Position Overview
As a member of the Hubbell Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence, you will help drive the adoption of metal and/or polymer AM across Hubbell by supporting the strategic business units as the subject matter expert on application development and DfAM. You will be a thought leader - identifying new applications for AM across Hubbell, educating Hubbell employees on the benefits and design challenges of AM, and taking ownership of contract manufacturer relationships.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluate potential additive manufacturing projects for technical feasibility and business case. Seek out areas where AM can be successfully applied within Hubbell and oversee the development of business cases for specific applications of AM.
- Educate Hubbell employees on how to find best use-cases of additive manufacturing parts, conveying the benefits of the technology and how to align the design with the manufacturing process.
- Support design engineering work packages for additive manufacturing projects.
- Develop strategic capabilities around design for additive manufacturing to increase the effective tools used in the development of additive components.
- Manage development of standard practices, design guides, and design rules related to additive manufacturing.
- Help drive the adoption of additive manufacturing across Hubbell by supporting the strategic business units as the subject matter expert on DfAM. Lead education efforts on DfAM best practices.
- Help individual business units establish AM capabilities, from initial prototyping, to setting up their own printing facilities and scaling for production.
- Assist with the establishment of the new Center of Excellence as the technical subject matter expert for DfAM.
- Help establish primary contract manufacturers for both metal and polymer additive manufacturing and help manage the relationships.
Skills and Experience
- Expert level knowledge of polymer and/or metal additive manufacturing technologies, DfAM, and application development.
- Skilled in CAD, SolidWorks/Inventor/PRO E (Creo), and FEA/calculations/simulation
- A collaborative communicator skilled at working with diverse teams, both as a team member and a leader.
- Experience with new product development processes, from new concepts to scaling up for production.
- 5+ years of design engineering experience
- 2+ years of additive manufacturing experience
- M.S, B.S. (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
