Job Overview

Primary responsibility is to approve incoming materials, in-process production, first articles, and maintain compliance to ISO 9001 through process audits and by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; communicating required adjustments to production Leads and Supervisor. The quality inspector will assist in the improvement and implementation of Lyall’s Quality Program.

A Day In The Life

  • Perform random in-process inspections to verify the specifications of the process are being maintained.
  • Perform first piece inspection upon completion of setups.
  • Report any discrepancies to the department supervisor.
  • When necessary, coordinate rework of products.
  • Researches and updates all current employees’ training history to ensure they are current with revision procedures.
  • Train employees in the quality policies, visual acceptability, measurement processes and process procedures as required.
  • Assists with quality training to ensure all employees are educated on proper techniques to achieve quality requirements.
  • Perform product and component tests.
  • Participates in the internal audit process.
  • Updates and maintains training matrix and training files.
  • Performs first article, in process, final inspection and testing.
  • Understand what happens if the sample part meets the prints specifications. Demonstrate what happens if they don’t meet the specs, who is notified and how.
  • Know the options which are considered when making a disposition on nonconforming product, the importance of immediately notifying management and preventing the use of the product.
  • Know the different functions of inspection including material identification, roving inspections of operations, receiving inspection, nonconformities.

What will help you thrive in this role?

Skills and Experience

  • 3 – 5 years of closely related experience;
  • Preferred SAP experience;
  • Must be able to perform basic reading, writing and mathematical functions and prior experience reading manual calipers.
  • Employees should be familiar with current ISO requirements and with engineering drawings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others verbally and written.
  • Basic mathematical skills are required. Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide.
  • Ability to understand and carry out detailed written and verbal instructions.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to move about the facility moving product.
  • Lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Must wear all PPE required for the specific work area.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Stand and or sit on stool in one area for up to two (2) hours at a time.
  • Turn and assemble production parts with fingers and hands for up to two (2) hours at a time.
  • Work usually takes place in a manufacturing/warehouse environment where conditions can be reflective of the outside elements.
