Job Overview

The Plant Environmental Manager is a hands-on position for a professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Environmental Manager will be the primary authority on-site for all matters related to environmental compliance, and environmental protocols. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing robust Environmental programs that protect our team, ensure regulatory EPA, DOT, RCRA, AIR, Wastewater and permit compliance while minimizing environmental impact. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver and a visible leader on the plant floor.

A Day In The Life

Every day at Hubbell is different and you’ll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you’ll make a difference by:

  • Manage and maintain all environmental permits and reports, including air permits, wastewater discharge permits (NPDES), and hazardous waste reports (RCRA), ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Developing and executing health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines.
  • Preparing and enforcing policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain all Environmental policies, procedures, and training programs for the facility.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all regulatory agencies (EPA, State & City regulators).
  • Oversee the hazardous and non-hazardous waste management program, including waste characterization, labeling, storage, and disposal, ensuring full compliance with RCRA regulations.
  • Conducting training and presentations for RCRA, DOT, CWA, Stormwater and Hazard Communication training.
  • Conduct regular Environmental audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs).
  • Monitoring compliance with policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations.
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts to eliminate waste and minimize environmental impact through reduction, reuse, and recycling.
  • Manage the site’s emergency response plan, including coordinating drills, training emergency response teams, and ensuring equipment readiness.
  • Inspecting equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
  • With the EHS manager, investigating accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims.
  • Recommending solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
  • Reporting on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics. Monitor and analyze Environmental metrics to track performance, identify trends, and report progress to plant and corporate leadership.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Services, Public Health, Occupational Safety, or a related field.
  • Current and active relevant certifications.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience, including leadership experience(required)
  • Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines. In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, RCRA, CAA, CWA, DOT).
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) are highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in managing environmental permits, EHS training programs, and incident investigation processes.
  • Keen ability in producing reports and developing policies.
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in relevant systems and software.
