Job Description
Role: Credit Analyst, Credit Cards Portfolio Management, Retail Credit, Chief Credit Office, Risk.
The big picture
Our team purpose is to “Maintain a resilient portfolio through sustainable lending to deliver the best outcomes for customers and stakeholders." This is key in Helping Britain Recover from the pandemic.
Our team’s role is multifaceted and impactful. We’re responsible for a range of limit management and lending strategies, overseeing the portfolio and promotional campaigns to ensure future credit losses are in line with plan, and supporting the Consumer Finance business objectives.
What you’ll do
Your responsibility is to manage the credit risk strategies for proactive and reactive credit limit increases plus authorisations and providing oversight to the business.
In practice, you’ll develop skills in manipulating and interrogating complex data in SAS and Excel. Alongside these analytical outputs, you’ll build your commercial knowledge to interpret results and produce impactful insights or recommendations to the team, senior management and other interested colleagues.
You may be pleased to hear that there’s no typical day! For example, one week will involve performing impact analysis on a new strategy rule that protects our customers and the bank. The next week you’ll be producing performance analysis that helps to show the value and opportunities in our strategy.
The team you'll work with
You won’t be alone in this endeavour!
Cards portfolio is a small but mighty team currently spread across Cardiff, London and Chester. We pride ourselves on promoting wellbeing and creating an environment for colleagues to thrive in.
In the immediate team, your manager and senior analysts will be there to guide you, and the rest of the cards team are available to lend support.
More widely within the cards team and across the department, we work collaboratively to deliver wider initiatives for continuous improvement across risk management, analytics and oversight.
What skills are needed
This is a great role for an inquisitive, analytical person on a journey to becoming a retail credit risk subject matter expert. These are key skills that we expect will set you up for success.
- Programming experience – you’ll primarily use SAS and excel but experience in other languages such as SPSS, R, SQL, C++, Matlab will give you a flying start
- Enthusiasm for problem solving and analytical mindset– innovation and thinking out of the box is encouraged
- Effective communicator – able to clearly explain complicated issues or data. This will start with your immediate team but will grow to different audiences technical, non-technical, junior colleagues and senior management as you develop
- Highly Organised - ability to plan and operate independently
- Understanding of Retail banking and credit cards providing a baseline for building knowledge.
