How can you grow with Nufarm?
Based in Chicago Heights, IL, Nufarm is looking for a Regional Industrial Hygienist reporting to our Director, Health Safety and Environmental NA. The Regional Industrial Hygienist will collect data and analyze many types of work environments and work procedures. This role will inspect workplaces for adherence to regulations on safety, health, and the environment. He or she will assist leadership to resolve health issues by identifying risks and by implementing policies and programs to mitigate these. They will conduct training and presentations to ensure employee awareness of occupational health developments, lead biological monitoring programs, implement corrective actions, and halt operations where necessary.
What will you be doing?
- Inspect, test and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure that they follow health and safety standards and government regulations.
- Prepare written reports from audits, inspections, occupational health evaluation and exposure assessments.
- Design and implement workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from hazardous work conditions.
- Evaluate program performances on workplace health and safety.
- Demonstrate the correct use of safety equipment.
- Investigate incidents and accidents to identify what caused them and how they might be prevented.
- Advising and collaborating with management to resolve occupational health issues.
- Create and execute studies to monitor and assess employees’ exposure to health risks, and to measure the effectiveness of occupational health programs, policies and procedures.
- Oversee biological monitoring program.
- Assess and analyze research data, summarizing statistics, and compiling reports.
- Propose and lead the implementation of programs to protect employee health & safety.
- Conduct regular audits of programs.
- Develop and conduct employee safety training programs to ensure employee awareness of occupational health and safety concerns, programs and regulations. These programs cover a range of topics such as how to use safety equipment correctly and how to respond in an emergency.
- Implement corrective actions and suspending operations if required.
- Coordinate loss prevention, worker’s compensation and case management processes.
- Advise various parties on workers’ compensation claims pertaining to workplace exposures.
- Maintain current knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation.
- Maintain and manage Industrial Hygiene hazard inventories (such as asbestos, and others)
- Examine the workplace for environmental or physical factors (e.g., lighting, equipment, materials, and ventilation…etc.) that could affect employee health, safety, comfort and performance.
What do you bring?
- You hold a bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, life science, or a related field and 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing environment leading or coordinating occupational health and industrial hygiene programs. Additionally, Industrial hygiene experiences in chemical, petrochemical, or related industries. The right candidate will preferably have one or more of the follow certificates; Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification, Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification, Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST).
