Based in our state-of-the-art innovation center in West Sacramento, CA, this position is responsible for improving and streamlining lab processes, providing overall technical support implementing transfer of technology and driving cross-functional collaboration with research scientists, breeders, and the QA/QC teams. This position will ensure that resources are properly allocated to meet the timelines required for the various greenhouse and field activities involving trait introgression and MAS. This will involve coordination of testing schedules, understanding planting seasons and requirements across the globe and ability to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders. Also, this position is responsible for building the team’s talent, nurturing diverse skillsets, and allocating resources across projects to ensure maximum throughput. Communication and transparency are key to success.
The Opportunity:
- Responsible for leading the operation of Nuseed Molecular Marker laboratory
- Tests samples, interpret, and report results to project owners in a timely manner.
- Coordinates the quality control testing schedules and reviews the data and ensures the data generated meets high quality standards.
- Administration of the R&D LIMS system.
- Identifies and proposes new improvement and capital needs for the molecular marker laboratory. Critical equipment calibration and troubleshooting and ensuring that lab equipment is properly serviced timely and in proper working condition.
- Ensure QMS/ SOPs are maintained and documented properly.
- Leads, inspires, trains, and develops a team of researchers responsible for application of molecular marker technologies to the development of new breeding lines for all Nuseed crops.
- Provides technical oversight and troubleshoots technical issues

- Strong focus on identification, testing and application of new advanced molecular marker technology and services in support of our molecular breeding efforts.
- Coordinate with molecular scientists in implementation of GBS, Illumina’s MiSeq and application of quantitative real-time PCR and ddPCR platforms.
- Continuously improves to ensure effective and maximal use of the technical platform resources.
- Drives improvements in tissue sampling, DNA extraction, processes, and implementation of digital system to drive efficiency in lab project management.
- Identifies new uses or applications of the technology platform to advance technology differentiation.
- Manages the laboratory budget and ensures that the lab is appropriately resourced with personnel, equipment and supplies to meet testing demands. Lab vendor list and supplies list are properly maintained. Prepares business case for submission of capital equipment purchase request.
- Works closely with sites across the globe to understand technical needs, timelines for each of our crops.
- Strong commitment to safety and reinforce safe culture in the lab. Make sure all personal is properly trained to use all the equipment safely, and succession plan is in place.
- Prior experience overseeing a high through-put molecular marker laboratory is required.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and improving genotyping technologies and platforms. Specific experience in high throughput DNA extractions, PCRs, KASP based SNP genotyping is also required.
- Experience in GBS, gene expression, next-generation sequencing is plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects for a wide range of customers and stakeholders.

Nuseed is looking for a Molecular Marker Team Manager to join our highly innovative and collaborative team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in high throughput DNA extractions, PCRs, KASP based SNP genotyping, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. We are looking for a candidate with extensive experience in plant biology, molecular biology, plant genetics and breeding, or biotechnology. The Molecular Marker Team Manager will place a high emphasis on coaching, training, and developing their team. Experience in the seed industry is preferred.
Salary Range: $130,000 - $160,000 USD
Nuseed takes several factors into consideration when determining salary ranges. These factors include, but are not limited to, candidate experience, education, geographical location, and industry. Nuseed roles are incentive eligible and offer a robust benefit package that are not reflected in the noted salary range.
